Need help/advise. Experienced problem with a black oval surrounded by blue dots/speckles--guess this is what is called the blue blob phenomena. Replaced lamp and the lamp driver, reset the lamp counter (hours) and the diagnostic screen which indicated a "1" on the lamp driver--which had just been replaced. Now, still have the speckled blue dots in the back ground but also vertical rainbow stripes about 1/8 inch across the screen. Some research indicates that the engine block have failed, but would like some additional insight if anyone can assist. Is this the beginning of pouring money into useless repairs? It appears a lot of folks are having proplems with their SONY TVs. Thank you for your time and patience.

Welcome to eCousric Prharry!

It look like the optical block is fail!

The optical block is most likely causing the problem. It will continue to get worse. Sony may help with the repair since they have had a lot of problems over the years with their optical blocks across many models. On the older sets they usually only help with the parts cost. The average repair cost for a optical block replacement is $1200.00 to $1500.00. So if they help with the parts cost it really brings the cost down. Their customer service number is 1800-222-SONY.

Please Google 'Sony Class Action'
See below for such a link::

This is a projection LCD set? Sony may have settled such lawsuits which may mean you are limited to either 1. Fixing at your cost or 2. taking whatever Sony offers.
Option #3? Rent a plane and drop it from 8,000 feet into Grand Canyon.....than taking the jail time.

Thank you to both Leo and Plymouth for your answers--did help. I did contact SONY and they offered a couple KDL EX series LCDs for discounted prices, or see a local approved repair person...but I have a week to make up my mind. Got to love it, but at least they appeared willing to help. Will do some further research--may still do option #3 as per Leo's recommendation. Again many thanks and happy holidays.
