I just hooked up my TV to an old outdoor OTA antenna in the attic through a 30ft cable run. I get about 23 stations but FOX, WWOR and CBS doesn't come in with low signal. I tried putting a powered amplifier from one of those indoor antennas inline right before the TV and it seems to help and brought in more channels including the channels I mentioned. I'm about 40 miles away from the towers and the antenna as far as I can tell are the common ones sold in Walmart which are suppose to be able to receive the "red" zone stations which explains why the blue and violet stations have a hard time coming in. I've since returned the amp that came with the indoor antenna since I really needed the outdoor one that's been in the attic for at least 10 years from the previous owner. It had the 300ohm cable which seem so work through the 300 to 75ohm transformer.

So my question is where should I really put an amp and what kind should I get? My problem is I've got no power outlet in the attic but from what I read online it seems to be better to put it closer to the source for a better S/N ratio going into the TV.

Hi linlaobwoo

Use this preamp:
http://www.warrenelectronics.com/antennas/AP2880.htm

Here is the pdf manual:

The power supply is in your house then power up the preamp through the 75 ohms cable, this amplifier is one of best to the market.
