Bought TV - Cannot connect DVD

I bought a Philips 27" Millenium Widescreen TV used on Craigslist...It was only $50 but weighs 92 libs!

The seller gave me a remote, but when I tried to use it I realized it is an RCA remote and obviously doesn't work.

My problem - I only want to use the TV to watch DVDs. I have the TV connected to my DVD player, but I cannot find a button on the TV that switches it from TV to DVD/VCR mode. Since I was given the wrong remote - I cannot figure out how to switch the TV into DVD mode. The front of my old TV had a button that allowed me to do that - this one only seems to have power, volume and channel. I've been playing with the front panel to see if it will flip up revealing other function buttons but no luck.

Is there anything I can do? I recall at one time that if you turned your TV to channel 3 that was the channel that allowed the VCR to play. Is this the case anymore? I live in Ontario, Canada; if that makes a difference.

Do universal remotes work?

Thanks !
