I had a Home theater system and whole house sound install in 2005.
Marantz SR-7500 receiver Speakercraft BB2125 250 Watt Amp and SC S4
switcher with Sonance Ipod Dock at the heart of the system. About a
year ago I notice a ticking sound in one outdoor chanel and now all
whole house zones just tick with no sound. How do I diagnose this
problem. The receiver also doesn't act quite right and the home
theater portion is not working so I guess it is the problem but I
don't want to replace it until I am sure thats waht's wrong. any help
would be appreciated.

8 or 9 years sounds about right for a HT receiver.
If it comes to it, an upgrade to seperate amp(s) and some kind of processor may be in order.

You have to start breaking it down and checking ONE piece at a time to find the culprit. THAN the issue becomes how much you are willing to spend on a fix, given it may be difficult to find SOME parts. The receiver manufacturers are BIG on 'proprietary' or 'custom' ICs and only make so many 'extra'.

You MIGHT want to start by doing whatever Marantz calls the 'hard reset' on the receiver. When that doesn't work, go to plan 'B', strip the system down and start checking one component at-a-time.
