Great for our needs

(5 out of 5) by Julie on Aug 29, 2009 (Kent)
We have a desktop but we wanted a laptop to take away, and to use around the house. We bought the Aspire 5738Z and we are really pleased with it. We have had no problems going online, it picked up our wireless sky broadband with no problems and is fast! We also have a dongle for when away and again even in relative poor signal areas it connects no problem. The mouse pad is easy to use and the scrolling function makes life much easier. It has a large screen but we use it for dvds when away so it suits us. We could have spent alot more, but we feel for the money we got more than we bargained for. The battery life could be longer, but we bought an in car charger for when away camping and it worked really well. Overall very happy!

Best Notebook owned yet.

(5 out of 5) by Mr. J. R. Mooney on Aug 30, 2009 (Northern Ireland)
After owning several laptops, i had initally decided that a 'cheapie' would do. When nothing cane close to the performance I needed, I decided on the Acer. It came with 4GB ram and 500GB HDD, all for £399.00. BARGIN! Easy to set-up, desperately easy to use and excellent performance.
If you are looking for an excellent notebook, please concider this. I cant understand why some of the other reviews are so poor. All I can say is that I would be happy to recomend to my own family.

Larger than I expected

(3 out of 5) by Cogulot on Aug 5, 2009 (South West France)
A very smart looking laptop, but wider than I'd expected to I dont think it will be used on my laptray, which is where I wanted it in Winter.
So far,I have been using Vista without problems but I am still trying to find my way around the applications.I find the keyboard as unpredictable as my last laptop- keys too flat or close together, so for serious work ,I go back to my desk top.
Overall,I dont think I made the right choice for me and wish I had looked more closely at different models. One disadvantage of mail order being you can't touch and feel first.
Delivery to me here in France as always first class, prompt and secure.Well done Amazon.

Very Dissapointing

(1 out of 5) by Mr. Neil A. Heywood on Jul 30, 2009 (Anglesey)
This Laptop feels very cheap when you first handle it and I am sorry to say does not perform much better. Very bright and clear screen but really that is the only plus point I can give it.

Wireless connection took 11 Attempts to complete though everything was OK at the network end. Then kept telling me I was offline when I wasn't You have to release the top to open it and this kept sticking. After only 9 Days the keyboard gave up completely and ...Yes you guessed it the machine has been returned to Amazon for a full refund. Maybe I just was unlucky but I would not by an Acer product again after this experience.

disappointed

(2 out of 5) by metalback on Aug 3, 2009 (Derbyshire)
the specs on this laptop looked very good and the machine did look impressive. However, when it came to connecting to the internet i found it slower than dial up. i returned it to Amazon, within a week.
