Mini Microphone for iPod

(5 out of 5) by Music maven on Apr 22, 2009 (UK)
This is a small mic that fits in the earphone socket of an iPod. (Mine's an iPod Classic). It comes with an overcap that makes it look rather like a bean when closed. When you pull it open you'll see a triple ringed connector that just pops in to the earphone socket.

For the iPhone 3G & iPod Touch you'll need to install additional software, such as iTalk Recorder or Easy Recorder, to use this item. For the iPod Nano & iPod Classic there's pre-loaded software on the units, so you're ready to use this straight away.

Once you put the mic in the iPod, a new menu item appears called "Voice Memos". In there you've a choice of High or Low quality recordings. Just click and start the recording. It'll save the recording as a .WAV file to the iPod. You can make iTunes automatically copy these voice memos to a playlist called "Voice Memos". Pretty simple.

The quality of the recordings are quite good. I tried from a few distances (1, 3 & 6 feet away) and it seemed fine for dictaphone use and even recording a guitar & vocals.

I don't know about how much battery life it drains, as I've not used it for that long as yet. However, as it plugs into the earphone connector, I assume you can plug a charger in to the dock connector at the same time to charge the battery as it runs - which you can't do with a mic that connects to the dock connector. If that works it's a good feature of the unit.

I also like how compact this unit is. It fits on the little bag I've got for my earphones and is very discrete when plugged into the unit.

Excellent Little Mic!

(5 out of 5) by Adz on May 13, 2009
I own an Ipod touch and wanted to use some of the audio features and apps that an Iphone can use because it already has a microphone. I seemed to recieve this product quickly and undamaged.

For its size I think it is an excellent piece of kit! It is smart and compact like a little black bean so it stays protected and seems to fit into my ipod well without it being loose or faulty. I have had it for a few weeks now and I am very please with it!

Its very sensetive for a mic that is so small and this means it is good for recording things that at a distance however if you are recording loud noises you may find it become distorted. However at a reasonable volume volume the recording quality I would say is very good! It fits neatly into the headphone socket and does exactly what it says and I would recommend this for anyone looking for a cheap and easy solution for turning and ipod or iphone into a audio recorder!

Great gizmo

(5 out of 5) by Pillowface on Aug 4, 2009 (Perthshire, UK)
This is a super little gadget. Works brilliantly with my 120gb classic ipod. Obviously not studio/professional standard sound, but for memos/voice recording etc, it's great - nice and clear. Works really well with my ipod on 'low' quality sound, thus saving battery power. Good price, and I got mine within 24 hours of ordering. Only downside is how not to lose it when it's not attached to the ipod, as it's so small. Any ideas, not involving velcro?

Great for recording interviews

(5 out of 5) by M. Wheatman on Jul 27, 2009 (UK)
Does what it says. Sensitive enough for recording interviews at a comfortable distance. No compatibility problems with my 4Gen nano. If I was going to have a winge I would say it would be very easy to lose due to its size and inconspicous appearance.
