Super smart camera
This little camera size belies the many features it possesses. Take time to read the manual a few times to find out all it can do - it's worth it. The picture quality in the 'Intelligent Auto' mode is fabulous and simple to use. The more enthusiastic photographers will appreciate the custom features. Normally I steer clear of anything other than Auto, but this camera makes it so easy to use more sophisticated features that I had a go and enjoyed playing about with my photos. The battery is light and long lasting. The optical zoom is better than that on many a much bigger and heavier camera. The auto focus captured a bird moving at speed and produced a lovely image, something my previous camera could not do. All in all it's a light as a basic compact but as good as the larger, more cumbersome cameras. The silver case is classy too.

A Good All-Rounder
I really like this camera! It is reasonably small and light and takes good pictures. I have put some images taken with my TZ6 at Hornsea on Share your own customer images. The main selling point of this camera is the 12x optical zoom lens. I was a bit wary at first that, at maximum zoom, camera shake could be an issue. But I find that it shouldn't be a problem so long as you turn the stabilizer on (mode 2 is most effective) force a reasonably fast shutter speed, get a good hold on the camera, and squeeze the shutter button gradually. The Intelligent ISO feature is a good way to force a fast shutter speed. It uses motion detection to determine what shutter speed would freeze the motion, and sets the ISO rating to suit.
There are excellent features on the Record menu, for instance there are two choices of image quality. You can set 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratios and the camera will actually record those proportions, unlike other cameras that just give you guidelines on the screen. There is a wide choice of white balance, AF mode, and metering mode. There is a thing called I.Exposure which is supposed to give natural colours. I haven't tried that yet. You can take shots in burst mode. There is a choice of colour modes. You can even specify a minimum shutter speed. I have often been put out by cameras deciding that 1/30 sec or 1/15 sec is an acceptable shutter speed. Now I can set 1/60 sec minimum and those problems are a thing of the past!
There are also good features on the Playback menu, for instance normal play, slide show and category play. There is a very nifty feature to see your photos in a calendar view, shown on the day of the month they were taken. Then you've got title edit, text stamp and options to resize, trim, and level your images. This will be very useful for people who print direct from camera, or get their photos done at a shop. The TZ6 gives basic facilities for videos, but if you are really into taking videos best check out its sister product, the TZ7, which gives much more advanced facilities for videos. I am only into stills at the moment, so I saved myself a bit of cash with the TZ6 which gives all the facilities I need. An impressive package!

Panasonic Lumiz TZ6
I have been looking for a companion to my Canon A640,needed a small , pocket size camera that had a wide lens, handy to be able to get all the subject in without having to stand way back(often not possible)the Leica lens also sold me together with lots of other features advertised elseware.Spent a week in the Yorkshire Dales in all weather conditions i took some excellent pictures using all the variations offered by the camera(took safety pictures at same time with the canon)the Funnel cloud i took was awsum, i just stopped the car jumped out pointed it at the funnel and the pictures were perfect(had it on automatic).
A earlier review originaly put me off buying the camera i had set my mind on buying, the reson was a review said a replacement battery was "not available" i found one in a small specialist camera shop in a nearby Market Town, then whent into a National Camera Shop Chain and replacements can be bought over the counter.would recomment this to anyone who wants to take excellent pictures, if you want to do lots of HD Video understand the next model up has more features but for a bit more money, happy with my buy from Amazon.

This camera has made me take photos of just about everything!!
I have very little knowledge of cameras (keep reading and you will agree!!) and so I needed something that I could point and shoot but would take good quality photos and is easily to understand. This ticked all the boxes for me. It has been to 2 concerts and 1 festival so far and has performed extremely wellon all occasions. One slight niggle is the dial on the top is a bit too easily moved but it warns me what is wrong.
It probably is far too good for me but I love it anyway and it has been much admired by friends who do know a lot more than I do so I am happy I made the right decision
