very surprised

I purchased this camera as i needed something robust to take on holiday & because of panasonics good reputation thought i would go for it, i was not disappointed, i thought the photos would be exceptable but so far this camera has far exceeded my expectations, for a compact the results are amazing, i also own a canon G10 & the FT1 results are much better, ok its not going to be as good as a DSLR , but ive owned a lot of high end compacts & this beats the lot. if you want a good quality point & shoot this is the one to get.

Highly recommended!!

I was looking to purchase a 'tough' digital camera to take on holiday that was waterproof and dustproof - and this fitted the specification. It came down to a decision between this and the quirky canon powershot D10 - I'm so pleased with my choice!

I have only had the camera for a day and therefore have yet to test it underwater, but so far so good!! Picture quality is excellent, menu layout is simple to use and logical. It has definitely been designed with the user in mind - some great features that make it fantastic for general use as well as adventure junkies - pictures are clear even with the zoom in full use, thanks to a great stabiliser and 12 mega pixel resolution. My favourite features are the 'burst' function, which allows you to take as many shots as you wish in extremely quick succession - approx 10 pictures per second - great for sports events which makes it perfect for me. In conjunction with this the favourites function is brilliant - taking pictures in burst mode means you have hundreds of pictures to manually delete to create more room on your sdhc card for new pictures - this allows you to select which are your favourites and delete the remainder.

There are so many more things I could mention, but in summary, this is one smart camera. I couldn't decide whether to 'take the plunge' - excuse the pun, :) with this camera as other than technical reviews in jargon I don't understand, there is little info on the net, but in my opinion, its well worth its money and then some.

Highly recommended.

Good camera. Takes good pictures and video. Easy to operate. Little dissapointed and to how easy the screen got scratched, but that could just be down to the kids.

Review for Lumix Ft1

(1 out of 5) by H. Davey on Sep 9, 2009 (N. Devon, England)
I bought this camera with the sole intention that I could use it like a Gopro. Sadly after its first visit to the water, in really nothing more than 6inches of water it packed up. The issue seems to be the battery compartment, and poor waterproffing around the door. So I warn all prospective buyers to perhaps consider the heavy weights for use in water, the Canon seems to be a little bit more robust.

Not made to be used in water.

I will second what H. Davey said. I used mine in shallow water (less than 1 metre) to take pictures of my wife and kids (nothing extreme), following Panasonic's instructions to the letter. The result is a nice brick to stare at.
I used this camera a total of 5 times, twice in the pool, once in the desert and once in the sea. The sea killed it, pure and simple although I rinsed it straight after.
This is a expensive pile of rubbish which will take OK to good pictures in normal conditions, and no pictures ever after you use it in salty water.

There are a number of people who experienced this same problem if you are to believe amazon, but most of the review sites overlook this.

So disappointing.
