Absolutely brilliant

(5 out of 5) by John Neal on Jul 7, 2009 (Berkshire United Kingdom)
It is as a professional photorapher with over 40 years experience that I write these words.
In all those years I have never before met such a compact, intelligent, accurate and inexpensive camera. It is truly a modern masterpiece.
I could have selected a more recent model; I could have chosen more pixels; I could easily have paid very much more - but value for money, this is a little gem. I doubt if any of the previous options would give me better results or made pictures more easily obtained.
Most reviewers seem to have at least one gripe;well, mine would be that a spare battery would cost nearly £20. But hey, this is a masterpiece - it deserves the very best fuel.

Finally pleased after much research...

(4 out of 5) by SPB on May 18, 2009 (London, UK)
Finally, and a week before my holidays, I found the Panasonic FS7 after reading a review in a digital camera magazine.

Its perfect for my requirements - I love taking photos but dont yet quite understand all the intricate camera settings so a good auto mode is a must for me at the moment.

This camera is simple to use, takes good pictures in both the Intelligent Auto mode and in the special scene modes and has a normal mode which you can tweak slightly to suit your preferences.
Small and compact but sturdy and weighty enough not to make it too easy to shake (although it has an image stabilizer anyway)
I took this camera on holiday with me to Asia and am so far pleased with all of the pictures.
Even low light pics taken with high ISO's are not too grainy as they can be in some cameras.

The only thing that stopped me giving this 5 stars is that the face detection in Intelligent Auto mode doesnt always seem to pick up the faces but not really a big deal just being honest as you can just put the portrait setting on. Without this in low light situations the flash can be a bit bright for the subjects face.

After much research I chose the Panasonic brand but initially bought the Panasonic FS3 camera which I didnt feel was up to scratch, pictures just not as sharp and colourful as I wanted.
I returned this and purchased the Panasonic FX37 which is another highly recommended camera in most of the photo mags and which has more adjustable settings than the FS7 for those of you who need them but it turned out to be faulty (the edges of the pictures on the wide angle lens completely blurred) so I had to return that too.
It was while waiting for my refund I read about the FS7 and am so glad I did!!

workplace camera

(4 out of 5) by DGNB on Aug 5, 2009
I need a camera for my work in which I visit sites and comment on things seen in a report. Pictures are vital to my reports to stress a point. I bought this camera after some research to replace my Fuji Finepix F601Z which has served me well for the last six years in all kind of weathers and temperatures. My main reason for not replacing a Fuji for a Fuji was the cost. The Panasonic Lumix was much cheaper and on the whole seemed to offer more features. I have had the camera three weeks now and only have two negative comments. The first is that I did not get any memory card with the camera even though the box it came in stated there would be one. I have had to buy a memory card. The second observation is that there is no eye viewer to look through before taking a photograph and because of this you have to look at the LCD screen (difficult in sunny conditions due to glare)for your photo. I have tried the close up and distant photos and even a passing overhead plane and all photos came out fine. You do need to read the instruction booklet before use as this will help immensely with tailoring the camera features to your tastes, e.g. smallest on 4:3 for photos to be send by internet means and attachments. All in all I am happy with it in particular the quick menu feature and it is basic to use.

Nice Camera

(4 out of 5) by S. Walmsley on May 30, 2009 (UK)
I have just bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7 that scored quite well in on line reviews and in the short time I have had it has already produced quite good results.

Very easy to snap pictures and so far been very reliable. Also quite reasonably priced compared to the competition.

Some interesting features and a clever iA system which picks the setting for you when you compose pictures. Uses SD cards, which I already had so no more expense needed to store pictures. Seems well built even compared to the latest Canon IXUS cameras.

The only reason its not 10 out 10 is it seems a lot slower to upload the pictures to my PC than my previous Canon IXUS cameras and the editing software Photoshop elements on my PC does not seem to work as well with it.

Otherwise so far I am very pleased with this camera so far and for the price its a bargin.

My Lumix FS7

(5 out of 5) by P. Thatai on Aug 29, 2009 (London, England)
At this price, I would highly recommed this camera - probably the best of the 6 digital compact cameras that I have bought thus far. Ease of use, excellent photo quality and a fantastic feel - and the pride of a having a Leica lens.
An enjoyable expereince.
