Finally I bite the bullet and ordered this player last week (It was £109 though!). I experimented with lots of players in the past including Sony ATRAC (Hi-MD player), Creative and even had experimented with Apple Ipod. I didn't like Ipod because of iTunes and no manual equalizer. Creative is not reliable (as per the reviews). So finally settled with Sony again. The music is clear and loud with thumping bass and has lot of minute details which I did not experience in Ipod and even in my Creative player. If you are an Audiophile and want to experience music as it is without lot of synthesizing, go for this one. You'll never regret.
With Noise cancelling, 16GB, it's a deal. the noise cancelling is perfect especially if you travel in public transport like me (Tube/Bus), it comes very handy. The user interface is intuitive (with 3 buttons which I feel is essential unlike the scroll wheel of the competitor). Sound clarity is perfect with equalizer and other sound enhancement features.
The only concern I have is the video conversion thing which didn't work very well for me. I tried converting my favourite You tube vids to mp4 and copied to the player. Tried copying using media manager as well. It did not play it. I have to figure out. I tried other mov /wma format vids from my computer. No luck so far. Any help would be much appreciated!
It will be nice if the software does all the required conversion with out all the hassles (that's why 4 stars).

Overall it is a good player, value for money with incredible earphones (not like Pound land quality earphones like competitors).

All I can say is just buy it. The sound quality knocks spots of the Ipod. Not as big as the A series, but makes up or it with being able to run BBCi player. Best set of headphones supplied with an mp3 player. Drag and drop works fine. Does what it says on the box.

Just like to even up the ratings for this product,i got mine from amazon when it was £99.99,absolute bargain at £20 cheaper than the 639 model,yet identical in every respect apart from noise cancelling that works with the earphones supplied,finished in a better looking brushed aluminium than the 639 in my opinion with gold emblems instead of the red,looks a bit more classy,a stunning product all round just like the 639,so ignore the nonsense 1 star review,this product is top notch quality!

I bought this to replace my Archos Gmini 400 as the battery was dead. I chose it for the reports of good sound quality and battery life. I am really pleased with it, the sound quality lived up to expectations. Video quality is good too. You need to purchase a fix for the software to convert video but its only £7.00 so its worth it to save hassle.
The "sense me" feature works reasonably well to instantly taylor a playlist to suit the mood, some choices are a bit odd though - it does make the initial file transfer a bit tedious though if you have the feature activated.
If you have a newish Sony TV with a USB port you might be able to display a slide show of your photos with music from the player - picture quality is excellent.
The noise cancelling seems to work reasonably well - some times - it had a noticeable effect when I was listening whilst waiting for a Counting Crows Concert to get going. It will probably work well in an aircraft as active noise control tends to work best at low freqencies.
This is a great bit of kit, light, portable and easy to use - highly recomended.

It blew my lousy iPlod Nano into a cocked hat. Much better sound quality, superb supplied headphones easily as good as my up market Sennheiser's!!!
Software is much, much easier to use, it does not try and take over your free will and is nowhere near as intrusive as the damned iPlod rubbish.Today I gave the IPlod away to a friends daugher at the pub, that is how much I love the Sony. Do not hesitate, it is an amzing bit of gorgeous sensual kit with a sound to die for AND it has radio to boot.
