This light, compact, touch screen, dual (disc and memory card recording) easy to use cam-corder is a good price. It records in MPEG2 format for video, (using MP2 dolby digital sound), on either disc (best to use rewritable) or memory card and only on memory card for JPEG photgraphs. It does take decent photographs although limited in function compared to a specifically built DSLR camera. It has three quality levels 9Mb(HQ) 6Mb(SP) and 3Mb(LP), so far I have only used HQ and SP and the results are very good. The disc will finalise to Vob format such that the disc can be played on a TV via a DVD recorder/player and other media devices. The software that comes with the camera is very good, easy to use and I would recommed its use for all whether novice or computer literate. The only down side is that the sensitive microphone picks up wind distortion very easily. To remedy this I cut a section of pipe insulation foam and taped it over the microphone- Instant massive improvement
