One problem
I like my new 5th.gen. i pod, great new features which are straight forward to use. However the one gripe I do have is why did they change the connecting slot at the bottom ? It has rendered my recently purchased FM car player useless. Also when I slot into my i pod player at home it no longer recharges the battery, definately a step backwards in my view.

My first iPod, and I am thrilled
I'm on my 3rd iMac, accordingly I thought I had better get myself the ultimate in gadgets. Not that I need an MP3 player that much, but what with the FM-radio and film camera, I could no longer resist the temptation.
There's no need to repeat the Product Description above, and I'll only comment on those things that are immediately striking and useful: the aluminium case feels solid and strong, not plasticky at all. The screen is quite large by now (earlier screens really were too small to be of much use) and of impressive clarity and brightness. The ear plugs seem of adequate quality - having read lots of reviews during the years I certainly was somewhat apprehensive - and the audio floats easily and clearly in my head; I still haven't quite acquired the knack of making them fit my ears just so, however. Synching with my Mac was a breeze, as was the 1st update.
FM-radio is better than feared. The video camera far better: gad, it's TINY! The vid is 640 x 480, good enough for fullscreen playback on my 20" iMac. Colours are inavoidably a little washed out but better than hoped for, and it's rather wideangle and close-up. The mic is very good, picking up everything around you. I could easily hear I have a bad cold.
The large screen, the camera and the radio make certain this cannot be anything but a hit. I've done a bit of researching for the MP3/video recorder/voice recorder/FM radio combination and the Nano is the only one I could discover of the major brands, so far. It has it all. My shiny black wonder, everything so tiny. Amazing.

Absolutely Appalling!
I have owned various apple products over the last few years and have always been very happy. I have however now owned this 5th gen nano 16gb for just over 1 week and used it at the gym on 2 occassions. It has been kept in a neoprene armband and in the dry area of my kitbag but has totally stopped working. I have submitted it for examination at the 'genius bar' (!!!) who say that the submersion indicator has been activated by water contamination. I have explained how the device has been used and Apple refuse to offer any warranty cover for the product. This device which is clearly sold on the basis of gym use appears totally unfit for purpose, unless of course you are able to exercise without producing any sweat. An absolute disgrace, and looking at the thousands of forum entries with identical problems I am clearly not alone - buyer beware indeed!

Compared to my 1G Nano - this is superb! The casing is sleek in appearance and I was worried it might be a little slippery, but a plastic cover keeps the Nano in my grip. Tilt the nano on its side and you can view the album covers. It also tells you which song is about to play - but forget about this - you should have an idea of the song! The sound is great but I replaced the speakers and the sound is now amazing. I love it! Def. recommend!

Fantastic
Okay, so i thought there wasnt much more that apple could do to improve the nano; how i was wrong. The new nano has some major changes incorporated into the new model : fm transmitter, pedometer and camera as well as the voiceover technology that has recently appeared on the new shuffles.
The new incorporated camera is great for shooting video. It does so recording onto VGA and the itunes will automatically keep 200mb of space free to shoot some video. The camera is placed on the bottom left opposite side to the front of the unit, and is a smallish lens. There are also 16 modes which can be used to create some effects instead of normal old video. However, the camera will not let you take still images!
The new fm radio transmitter is great for radio on the go, and with an added feature of allowing you to pause live radio! However, this will eat into storage capacity on the ipod, which can be annoying if you have little left to spare.
The new pedometer system on the ipod works with nike+ which will help collaborate the data which can be later viewed on your pc (or mac)to monitor your exercise. It allows you to set goals to help you try and achieve them.
All the ipod nano range has received a paint job, with brighter paint being used, which makes them look a lot better than the 4th generation.
