Superb wide hi-res monitor, well suited to software development

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Craig Mckay on Jan 6, 2009 (Brechin, Scotland, UK)
I have just started using this monitor at work, and it is superb. I traded in two 4:3 aspect 20 inch monitors for this single 22 inch and what a difference already. I liked two because I could have a document or email open on one, and the work (Visual Studio, SQL etc) open on the other. However, I spend large chunks of my day in Visual Studio itself and the 4:3 aspect is no good: you can't easily have properties and toolbox open together.

This monitor, however, fits everything on in a most pleasing way! It is brilliantly-sharp, not monstrously-sized and extremely responsive. It is brighter than my old monitors too, without being hard on the eye.

For those not interested in software development, apps like MS Outlook take advantage of the 1680x1050 res - I can have my preview page at the side and see the full summary details in the list, and also read the full email in preview without having to constantly resize stuff.

Overall, I feel a huge productivity increase: I'm not fiddling about with windows and constantly resizing in any of my apps, and I also don't have the problem of having to reset the settings every morning for the two monitors (which it never seemed to learn correctly).

I haven't tried watching a movie, but I have no reason to think that the bright, sharp display would have any problems.

Highly recommended.
