I'd heard good things about the sound quality but was still surprised when I heard it for real. There's a surprising amount of bass for such a small unit and the fidelity is pretty good to my ears.
Two points knock a star off. Firstly the remote control is virtually useless. I imagine it works better with an iPod than an iPhone but still, it would be nice if the limitations were documented. Secondly, despite claiming to be designed for iPhone, when plugged in iPhones sometimes (but not always) volunteer to switch to flight mode, claiming that the peripheral is not compatible. To be fair you get none of the GSM buzz, the sounds is fine, but the warning is disconcerting.
Overall, one of the better iPhone docks that I've used. I'm not sure that I'd really consider it portable but for home it's great.

another JBL hit
(4 out of 5) by Stephen Jones on Sep 6, 2009I bought this as a portable alternative to my JBL Radial ipod speakers, and as hoped the sound is still excellent with the smaller speakers.
The docking can be slightly temperimental with my 4th Gen Ipod nano but this is not a major problem once properly connected.
Works well on battery power.
It is quite heavy, but has a useful carry bag for the speaker & accessories, so does fit the "portable" category
