Wow
I love my photography and I have the Canon EOS 50d DSLR camera, but as you need a rucksack just to take everything you need out, I wanted a point and shoot for the times you are not going on expedition! I have been a fan of the Canon ixus range ever since my first 2mp digital camera, with good software and ease of use was always my first choice. So after my DSLR I was worried I would have been spoilt, however this camera has the same number of pixels, uses the same processor and has many of the same functions like IS and lots of other useful functions like face recognition. It also has many of the preset modes that the DSLRs have and even has a semi-manual mode if you feel a bit adventurous! Only small criticism is that it's not the smallest camera on the market so doesn't quite so easily fit into your pocket, but then I think it's worth it for all the functionality you get

IXUS 980 Manual control? Not quite.
This camera exceeds my expectations. Although said to allow manual control this is limited to a choice of two aperture settings and an infinitely variable exposure. Not ideal. However, other features such as the manual focus exceptional.

Who needs SLRs?!
This is really an amazing pocket camera. We didn't go for the latest Ixus 990 as it only apparently takes HD movies, and we don't have an HD TV so didn't see the point. The flash recharges very quickly. The focus is very quick so you can press the button at very short notice and get a great picture. The metal case looks robust enough, though not really able to fathom out why Canon dropped the titanium feature, as was a good selling point of the IXUS 900.
Another reviewer somewhere made a valid point that Canon, the brains behind this great camera, seem apparently oblivious that the memory card they provide is really pointlessly too small, so best to buy a big one at the same time as you get this camera, as you'll be taking loads of pictures.

Excellent Quality
This camera was a replacement from a Sony. The design, brand and quality beat sony camera's anytime. The 14mp camera produces excellent quality prints and easy to use, it's colours come to life on print. The price is very reasonable too.

Canon Digital IXUS 980 IS
It has taken a bit of time to get used to all the settings. Still playing around with the manual controls - not had much success with those yet. Have taken some great macro shots and its nice to have a pocket size camera to take everywhere. Am pleased with style, comfortable to handle and am now getting some fab shots. A perfect substitute for when I can't carry my digital SLR camera. My only gripe is no sport setting which makes it difficult to take shots whilst on the move -a fave occupation of mine to stop me getting bored while travelling. All in all though a brilliant little camera - For me, worth the extra cost.
