Stunning

(5 out of 5) by omniathing on Jan 1, 2009 (shepperton)
I have never raved about a camera as much as this one. I was going to have the Somy DSC T500 as a replacement of my T30, which was a great camera. I was able to take some of the worst pics ever on the T500 and after 3 days it went back to Amazon for a refund which, as usual, arrived promptly.
This canon is a delight to use and the results are spot on, both with and without flash even my jet black cat looks great. The white balance always seems accurate and so far, have only had to tweak it once in Photoshop. Using the viewfinder is a great boon when shooting rapid exposures as you don't have to wait for the screen to refresh. The battery life is good 120 to 150 pics with the screen on and a lot more if not.
I can't fault this camera

Ixus 980is

(5 out of 5) by Mr Peter Waine on May 15, 2009 (UK)
This is one hell of a camera from Canon a must buy if your fed up with lugging SLR equipment about but want the same quality of shots for a lot less bother.

Auto and full manual control is incorporated into this camera with all sorts of extra features that is at your fingertips for any shot that you want to take and it is a breeze to operate.

The moment you pick this camera up out of its box you can see and feel the quality your money as paid for and this is also reflected in the quality of the pictures too.

From flash to low light shots this camera never fails to please its bang on with exposure and colour balance producing brilliant shots time after time with fantastic pixel quality to boot.

Macro shots are breath taking in quality showing detail that I have never experienced before with some of the other digitals I have used, so if Macro is your game you are not going to get much better than the 980 at this moment in time at least not in the other compact range that's for sure.

To sum up you get what you pay for in life and with the Canon 980is YOU HAVE , its big bucks for a big performer and this is a camera that is going to be with you for a very long time.

Canon have produced a camera here that is second to none and if the only thing you can knock it on is the video side of it then you're in the wrong game and a compact HD recorder is what you really need.

You won't go wrong with this camera no matter what the subject form from Macro, Portrait, Landscape you name it this camera will do it and do it damned well and it's in silver or black too so what more can you ask for? I give it 20 out of 10 because giving just 10/10 would not be doing it justice.

Thank you Canon for a great product and for listening for once to what the customer wants in their compacts and doing something about it.

I Decided to upgrade my canon ixus 65 ,and chose the canon ixus 980IS and I am not disapointed, it is a brilliant camera, 14.7 mega pixels gives very good results I have printed photo's a4 size with no loss of quality, Highly delighted,I use a canon printer and canon paper and inks and get exellent results, easy to use camera and you have manual settings if you wish, a nice feature is the viewfinder for sunny days when you can not always see the lcd screen,

First Impresions - Very Good

(5 out of 5) by J. Craig on Dec 27, 2008 (Northern Ireland)
I only got this camera for Christmas, so I haven't had a chance to use it very much, however the design of the camera itself is very user friendly. It has a large screen so this makes picture taking really easy and it seems to be packed full of functions as well, some of which I'll never use, but are good to have all the same! With 14.7 megapixels, this allows plenty of options as to what you can do with the pictures, such as creating large posters without a significant quality loss. The flash is also very good, as it doesn't create unnatural colours. (My previous camera turned the pictures an orange shade when using the flash!)

Overall, from first impressions, this seems like another excellent camera from one of the best manufacturers, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Does what it says on the tin

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Stephen P. Batt on Feb 10, 2009 (U K)
Delighted with my new Canon Ixus 980IS does everything it says it will and more. Really helpful to have so many manual options on a copmact. You can also use it in dummy mode and it delivers good results. Really changed to ensure a compact capable of quality macro shots and this it does extremely well. Well worth changing up and seems to deliver in all sorts of light and temperature conditions. Delighted.
