Buy it - it's Good!

(5 out of 5) by K. Read on Nov 27, 2009
I bought this on the basis of other good reviews and the experience of a friend who owns one. I'd previously owned an old Archos, hard disk based "Jukebox" media player that was good in its day but was somewhat bulky and dated by today's standards.

This Sony Walkman has turned out to be one of my very best recent techy "toys" buy. It's everything previous reviewers have said and more. It's tiny and therefore very easy to carry around, very well specified, the user interface is very easy to grasp and the sound quality (which is, after all, why we buy these things) is absolutely stunning. I can't comment on the ipod equivalents except to say they do appear to be more expensive. As to whether they're more stylish or not, who's to say - and who can tell when it's hidden away in a pocket anyway! If good value ease, of use and absolutely amazing sound quality is your desire - don't think about BUY IT!

Sony Walkman NWZ-S639FB 16GB Drag & Drop MP4 Video Player with FM Tuner

(4 out of 5) by ME CANNELL on Nov 25, 2009 (Buckinghamshire)
Great value for money considering the 16GB storage capacity and added features (eg FM radio, SenseMe function). It is light and small - perfect for commuting. I use it to watch stuff downloaded from BBC iplayer (choose the 'more downloads' option in iplayer) - although the screen is small (~2 in) its fine for a half hour show esp if the zoom function is switched to on. Sound quality with supplied headphones is excellent. Management of songs, photos and videos pretty straightforward, great to be able to drag and drop straight from iTunes (you can use supplied software to do this from within folders too) although transfer understandably a bit slow.

Light weight and easy to use

Sound quality good and the ear phones are surprisingly durable. The video quality is sharp but the screen is fairly small - clear enough for short music clips though.
Really light weight and very easy to use with a drag and drop facility. The battery can last for up to 14 hours depending on volume.
Bought a USB to main plug adaptor at the same time so I didn't have to charge it off the laptop. It charges up quickly on this and is handy to have so would recommend that too. Overall good value for money and very happy with purchase.

Very pleased I bought this!

I bought this Walkman as a replacement for my (very) old Creative, and it's fantastic! The sound and image quality are great, the controls are easy and intuitive, and I don't know how I managed without the SensMe channels, which are incredibly accurate.

Two small gripes: it's not possible to create playlists on the move, so it's only possible to listen to one artist or album at a time, and the software that comes with it is annoying. I store all my music on an external harddrive, with some on my computer as well, and (unless I'm being really stupid) it's impossible to copy the music from just the harddrive, meaning that I've used the drag and drop method, and therefore I'm not able to view the album cover art on th Walkman. However, these are only annoyances, not big problems, and overall I'm incredibly happy with my purchse. The headphones did die quite quickly but I think that's because they were living at the bottom of my bag - the Walkman is still fine!

Sony walkman 8GB

Good quality music player, easy to use, drag and drop, only problem is getting right format for videos, tried sony helpline but they could not advise a video convertor, sony earphones that come with walkman are fairly good quality - better indoors or stationery, if outside and moving then wind does interfere with sound, also makes rubbing sound on ears when moving. I'm fed up buying cheap mp3 players that only last a year and go faulty hopefully this one will last.
