Great Television- really pleased

(5 out of 5) by Mrs A Brice on Oct 23, 2008 (UK)
I am really pleased with this TV, just what I wanted.
I'd looked around at a number of others in Comet etc, but none were as good as the Sovos. This one was at a great price, and HD ready, and DVD player etc etc and fits perfectly in my bedroom!
I was impressed by Sovos, 2 year UK backed warranty was good- not many other companies seemed to offer this level of service.

Good Budget TV

(4 out of 5) by C. Ambler on Feb 3, 2009 (Glos, UK)
Having purchased a 19" Sony Bravia over 12 months ago to fit in our bedroom, which we enjoyed so much it never got to the bedroom but became our family TV, (until recently upgraded to a 32" Bravia), the 19" Sony has now gone to our daughters room.
So we find ourselves looking for a cheap alternative, as the budget was spent on the new 32", (still very resonable from Amazon, but that's another review) So after searching the web, Comet, Dixons, Currys etc.. the only thing that came in close was the Matsui, or the Tecknica(?) from Tescos, so we visited the stores to see what they really looked like, and went back home again, then we came across the Sovos, Freeview, HD Ready (whatever that intails) DVD built in, lots of inputs, even 12 volt DC and the right price.
Product built in Malaysia for a UK company based in the south of England, and there tech department in mid Wales, How do I know this? Well after fitting the TV to my wall, setting the unit to auto search, which it did without any problems and found all the usual freeview channels etc.. Only problem was the picture, seemed to be missing the blue part of the spectrum, On analogue TV picture was great, play a DVD, picture was great, on digital, not so great.
So call the number at the back of the instruction book, got through straight away, took my number and said they would get one of the tech guys to call back. Oh dear we all thought, but no, within the hour a very helpful tech guy rang us and we went through various diagnostic settings which you won't find in the instructions, but to no avail. "Not a problem, we'll send another out to you immediatly"
Next day a courier arrives with a replacement TV, which we fitted, tuned, and have been enjoying ever since. I called Sovos back to say we are happy, and then they arranged a courier to collect the broken TV, at a time and date to suit me, which was just over a week later, excellent service.
Having lived with the TV for a month now the main problem is the slowness of the channel change, and sometimes if you don't have the patience to wait, or you want to change more than once, the TV hangs, and locks up, where you have to switch it off and on again. This only happens on digital but the lovely people at Sovos are getting back to me with a cure.
The EPG (Electronic program guide)is a little messy, offers a whole weeks guide, but as you can't record on the TV, can't see the point really. (The Sony version is a lot clearer)
Audio is a little tinny, offers 4 options, Personel, this lets you adjust bass, treble, and balance, add as much bass as you like, but without external speakers, you'r again wasting your time, Preset EQ for Voice, Music and Theatre. Theatre is the least offensive
Other than that, a great TV

What a great buy

(5 out of 5) by bimms on Feb 22, 2009 (London ,England)
I have had almost every make of Television over the years and the only one that gives a better picture than this is my state of the art Sony. Never have I had one so easy to set up, plug it in, press a button and away you go. Great value Television.

Does everything for a great price

(5 out of 5) by Foxglove on Feb 24, 2009 (UK)
I purchased this for use in the bedroom. I wanted something that did everything ie Freeview, DVD, on a basic level for a good price. This has just done that. Easy to set up, good picture, no problems. Recommended.

Excellent budget TV / DVD combi

(4 out of 5) by J. Patel on Apr 20, 2009 (Romford, Essex)
Bought this TV / DVD combi about a month ago after reviewing many different products and after purchasing and returning a faulty 22" Toshiba combi. I thought the Sovos was an excellent buy at £240 from Amazon. Used Super Saver Delivery and it arrived in 2 days.

I have wall mounted it in my kitchen using a standard 75 vesa mount without any problems. It looks very neat and smart and the build quality is excellent too for this price.

When I initially switched it on, I was prompted to tune in the channels. It did this without any problems and all analogue and digital channels were tuned in. The remote, EPG and menus are fairly simple and straight forward to use.

My negative comments are (though I can easily live with these):

(1) the Digital picture quality is only 'ok', even after fine tuning it. The 22" Toshiba combi was far superior. However, the DVD picture quality on the Sovos is excellent.
(2) the TV has ample sound volume for a large sized room, however the sound distorts quite badly at higher volumes. This isn't such a bad thing as the problem with many other small screen TV's (inc. the 22" Toshiba) is that the maximum sound volume never seems to be sufficient
(3) the tv channel changes in the background as you scroll through the EPG and only displays information on the channels current and next programmes - my preference would be for it to show this for several channels at the same time (which is normal for most EPG's I've come across)
(4) to control the DVD player you need to switch to it first. This can be a minor niggle if say you want to eject a DVD whilst watching TV because you would have to stop viewing digital, switch to DVD mode, eject it and then switch back to digital TV

In summary though this is an excellent budget TV which has everything you need built in and comes with a 2 year warranty. Despite my minor negative comments above I would highly recommend it.
