Blu Ray

(5 out of 5) by Stephen Evans on Mar 19, 2009 (UK)
This is a great unit but please don't be fooled by the Amazon advert as the unit for sale that is branded VGXTP3E/B does not have a Blu Ray player but a DVD combo drive
Amazon - you need to change this advert and advertise the real specification as soon as possible before someone has you under the Trades Description act!

Significant Problems

(2 out of 5) by Mr. Daniel ROBERTS-GREEN on Aug 19, 2009 (UK)
Although one can never be entirely sure if problems lie with your specific item, or the generic product, there are many notable issues with this system that has made me return it...

Primarily, the keyboard uses Infra Red technology to connect with the unit - a serious issue when the pillow gets in the way whilst typing on the sofa. With BlueTooth commonplace now with the PS3 controller, I don't understand why they would use old technologies, with detrimental results.

My system was very slow and continually crashed. In addition, the HDMI connection which was a major appeal to me was troublesome at best, and on many occasions the system would simply fail to boot.

It is a very attractive system, and looks great in the living room. But this does not compensate for its flaws. This could and should have been an incredible piece of AV kit, but instead it has, in my opinion, drastically failed and fallen short of the high expectations I have come accustomed to with Sony.

It's a real disappointment, given such high hopes.

Great System!

(5 out of 5) by Raymond Kelly on Oct 22, 2009 (Ireland)
I spent a long long time looking for a PC based system to connect to my TV and do all the things I wanted and this does all of them and more. A great Media centre!

Keyboard is great. Strong and well built. Battery life is about 6 months for my usage which is approx 3 hours every evening. I use the keyboard about 10 feet away from my system with no problems.

Remote control is really good too. You can close web browsers down and open teh media centre to wacth tv or browse photos or music albums stored on your system. Though after using it for 7 months the text on the buttons is starting to come off due to wear! Bit annoyed about that but no big deal. The remote will also work with your X-box though i havent tested all the buttons. you can also put your PC to standby, next day press the standby button and the tv or whatever you were using will come up on the screen, this is useful as you dont have to startup PC everyday.

Blu-Ray on it is great! I have mine connected to a full hd tv and the quality is superb!!!Remembering that the PC connects directly to your TV using HDMI cable which is supplied. Though the Win-DVD software has become a pain for me causing many problems with new release DVDs etc.. and I am now considering purchasing PowerDVD as I have the trial version and its working with no problems.

Card slots at the front are nicely covered with a sliding door, pretty neat and useful of course for easy access.
System as a whole looks cool! It really is a nice looking system and runs pretty quiet also!

I would go for 4Gig RAM as vista is RAM thirsty!! Its a pity that they have used Vista. They should have chosen some light Linux distro! The system would be amazing then!!
Also if you keep recording from TV the harddisk will fill up quickly!!

There are also cheaper systems without the Blu-ray and an older white one for about 400 pounds or so. Not sure if you can still purchase that one or not.

Overall, I would highly recommend!! :-)
