Superb Surround Sound
I'd been trying to source someone who had stock of this amp for a while and so when I saw Amazon had one at a decent price I jumped at the chance. (As an aside, why did Sony make it so difficult to buy one of their amps? Hardly anyone had any stock for months! I was very close to buying another brand but the fact the rest of my system is Sony made me persevere)
Once out of the box the amp is rather smart and slightly more compact but satisfyingly heavier than expected. The instruction manual is good and although it took me a while to set it up the effort was definitely worth it.
Initially the sound was rather bright and harsh but after a couple of weeks running in and tweaking it gave just the sort of performance I was after, powerful but controlled and surprisingly good with music as well as films.
I highly recommend it.

Worth Every Penny
Totally satisfied with this amp. it produces a wonderfully open, transparent sound with excellent levels of detail. Wonderful weight and power but still seems agile and controlled. Great facilities and easy to set up. Partner it with a good blu ray player and speakers and !WOW!

OKish
Manual is atrocious, so noobs beware if this is their first AV receiver.
I expected the Bravia Sync to be more comprehensive (I have a Sony LCD TV and BD player), but it's handy to have the system turn off at the press of a button.
Not sure why Sony provide the 2nd remote, can't see much use for it given very limited controls
The on-screen display is a bit rickety and very slow in comparison to the proper XMediaBar of the BD player and TV. It looks a bit tired and isn't very informative.
I was hoping the Faroudja upscaler would be better than the TV's when looking at SD recordings from a Humax PVR, not sure it is TBH.
No ability to balance HDMI input source volume was big letdown and leaves you always adjusting the volume.
The remote control in theory allows you to control many devices, however I haven't found a workable code for the Humax PVR-9300T - not that that's a popular model or anything...!
FM reception was OK, but I was taking an FM feed off my cable provider.
The ability to black-out the front-panel display was good.
Overall, sound quality with a Yamaha 5.1 speaker set-up was perhaps better than may 10(?) year old Denon AVR-2800.

Sony STR-DA2400ESB 7.1 - Fantastic
This was the third AV I had tried. The first (from Amazon) was a Samsung, which sounded OK, but stopped working after 3 days. As always Amazon were brilliant about taking it back, paying all postage, and even refunding the extra I had paid for a quick delivery. A bit of research on the web showed the fault I had was common, so I didn't want a replacement. Then I tried a Sony "all in one" Surround system, which looked really nice, but sounded the same as the TV system (no "richness" to the sound) so back it went to Comet (they were a lot harder to convince to take it back, but that's another story). Then after much web research I settled on this unit, and it is just fantastic. I bought tallboy speakers (from Richer Sounds) with a powered Subwoofer, and the sound is really good. The Sky HD remote works the volume on the amp so 1 remote for everything (the better half loves that), and Dolby Digital is just superb for films. The upscaling makes my Wii really good on the 46" TV.
Only slight problem is the phono input doesn't like my turntable (sounds very poor) but this is a minor point. The unit looks good and I definitely recommend it 100%.

Superb piece of kit
I bought this reciever as a replacement for my Kenwood unit which had served me well for the past eight years. This unit has the same power output but does seem to have a much more powerful sound. the connections are sheer heaven for someone who is running two dvd players(one being a HDD recorder and the other a multi-region player) as well as a PS3, an XBOX360 and a Wii. All connected with relative ease, once i had figured out the input assign function. Also i have connected the optional iPOD dock (TDM-iP50)to the digital media port and can now listen to my music and watch videos from the ipod. I am using a Sony Bravia TV and this too works effortlessly using Bravia Sync to output the tv sound through the amp automatically. The automatic speaker set up using the included microphone is a breeze. the only criticism is the speaker connectors are a bit fiddly but you soon get used the them. All in all a superb unit which is well built and should last for many years. Excellent work SONY
