Great!!

(4 out of 5) by Cx on Jan 17, 2009 (UK)
I bought this as an upgrade to our Fuji FinePix (which I actually love, but have handed on to my son). It is a fantastic little P&S camera with lots of settings to chose from - including being able to set it manually if you are into that. It also has an 'easy' setting, which I would like to try out on my Mum who is not good with technology at all! The shots are fantastic and the screen resolution is clear and sharp with good colour (did previous reviewer not take the screen protector off??). I really like the option to turn off the digital zoom, as I hate to ruin good shots with fuzzy zoom. The 4X optical is more than adequate for the kind of everyday shots I take most of the time. A great little P&S basically. What I love too is the fact that with such high megapixels I can crop out my best bits of a photo without losing much quality at all :)
I also like the zoom in video mode (only digital zoom though) and the auto rotate feature (which you can chose to keep with the photo, or loose on image transfer to PC).
One thing I would like to see improved is the red-eye reduction. It only picks out one set of eyes for the shot (auto mode) and will be whichever face it decides is the main one. The editing software is a bit slow to work with too. The transfer software is fine, but I am sticking with other software for image manipulation as it is too slow (even allowing for the image sizes being big). One good thing about the software though is that it does enable you to rotate a video that you have shot the wrong way round, which I often manage to do for some reason!
Think that's about it!!

Promising specification but disappointing in action

(2 out of 5) by J. H. Davies on May 25, 2009 (Glasgow, UK)
I chose this model because I wanted a compact camera with moderate zoom and an optical viewfinder. I was further attracted by the voice memo feature. The images are excellent but in every other respect it has been a major disappointment. The optical viewfinder is tiny and awkwardly placed. The "voice memo" is so clumsy as to be useless. The battery monitor warns constantly that the battery is low, even with the new cells supplied, and my camera won't work with rechargable cells at all - even fresh from the charger. The controls are fiddly and it is hard to hold the camera securely without pressing a button by mistake. The specification looks good but I have found this camera utterly frustrating to use.

mini marvel

(4 out of 5) by A. H. BENNETT on Apr 30, 2009 (Westgate on Sea, UK)
This is a superb little camera. Very compact with excellent optics and easyto use.
It has the advantage of an eye level optical viewfinder as well as the screen which is very useful when taking pictures in bright sunlight conditions when the screen image is difficult to see.
All menus are easy to follow and it is designed to suit both the complete beginner as well as those with some knowledge of photography.
My only grouse -no manual settings -otherwise I would have rated it 5 stars.

Awesome performance and specifications

(5 out of 5) by Grimmage on Mar 11, 2009 (England)
This really is a great camera, so easy to use with 3 settings of "Easy mode" for point and shoot, "auto mode" more more advanced features but still easy to use and finally "Programe mode" which gives you access to all the advanced features.

Face detections workd perfectly and means my photos have all come out just great. I woult totally recommend this to any of my freinds!

disappointed

I bought this camera as a replacement for a Kodak C875 6mp. It pales into insignificance when compared to the Kodak. Build quality poor, photographs poor, Screen almost useless (I have to use the viewfinder because the quality is so bad). It has certainly made me question ever buying another Canon Camera. I will be generous and give it 2 stars but would advise anyone to buy this camera there are plenty of others on the market with far superior build quality, easy of use, screen definition and durability and superior photographs.

An ill conceived camera by a normal well respected company.
