I was in the market for a new scanner as my old HP 2400 was not doing a particularly good job. I don't scan all that much so I was looking for something cheap and cheerful, and I'm pleased to say that the Canon LiDE 100 fits the bill nicely.
It is compact and very light, making it extremely portable and easy to store when not in use (I don't keep the scanner permanently connected due to space constraints around my desk). Brilliantly, it takes its power from the USB connection to your PC rather than a huge separate power supply, meaning one less cable and power socket to worry about. If you are planning on using the scanner a lot with a laptop, I imagine it would drain the battery quite a bit.
Set-up was simple, just install the software (included is Canon's Navigator scanning software plus a copy of Arcsoft's PhotoStudio), reboot your PC, plug in the scanner and off you go.
Scanned images look good straight off the bat, and a little tinkering gets great results. Auto cropping is surprisingly accurate, which makes the scanning of photographs less of a chore.
The black colour scheme and low profile make the LiDE 100 quite pleasant to look at (well, for a flatbed scanner anyway). Using the buttons on the front is simple enough, I managed to produce a copy straight from the scanner to my printer just by pressing the relevant button and no other set-up involved.
Speed isn't this machine's strength, and it is slower than other scanners I have used, but having said that it isn't exactly snail's pace so nothing to worry about.
I highly recommend the Canon LiDE 100, it does a great job at a good price. Well worth purchasing if you do an average to low volume of scanning and you don't want your scanner to take up too much room.

A good scanner
This is one of the cheaper scanners but having used it several times I am pleased with the results
Great cheap scanner
I had an old scanner that was slow and cumbersome. This model does just what I wanted it is simple to use and enables me to scan documets for copying/ filing using Nuance paperport and PDF creater. So simple that even my wife could use it!
No problems
This item was delivered as quickly as we've come to expect, all in good condition. Software was straight forward to install, and the scanner itself works without any problem. The scanning speed is reasonably fast, and uses the standard canon driver. I was wondering if I shouldn't have given this 5 stars, as the image quality is "good" but not "great"; good enough for everything short of high quality photo editing; but then again, you're hardly paying that much for the machine anyway. Good value, buy it if you want something light, straightforward, cheap and definitely cheerful.

Spotty scans
My new CanonScan LiDE 100 scanner, using the basic scan mode, produced lots of white dots when scanning a dark background. I should probably have sent it back. By making specific adjustments, I could produce a scan with only a single white spot, but a new scanner should have had no white spots on any setting. I've yet to find out what is really wrong.CanoScan LiDE 100 Scanner
