Canon PIXMA MP620 Printe

(5 out of 5) by Mr. John Vaughan on Dec 1, 2009 (UK)
A nice printer, easy and convenient to use. Good quality printing, even on non stander inks. The only downside was the wireless link not easy to setup.

Great for a while

I have had my printer since September, it was my second one as the first had a pixel error on the scanning plate. I use the machine in its wireless free mode. I was unable, due to poor health, to use the machine in October and started using it again this week. The first time I used this printer, in September, I was impressed but this time it was like using a totally different machine. I had often experienced dealing with the phantom message alerting me to 'no paper' but this time it was warning me at every page I tried to print, no matter how many papers I added or removed from the paper tray. It ate paper. It spat a project out, half way through printing but insisted it was still printing the project! I had to cancel the print queue. It did this twice. I took the project to my other PC and printer, to ensure that it wasn't a fault with the CD Rom that I was using, my Cannon MP390 series printed it without a hitch. The Canon PIXMA MP620 series now will not load and work with papers that it has previously been happy to print on. I has now frozen completely.

I rang Canon and they say it is a hardware fault. This sudden breakdown is very frustrating. The machine is being returned to Amazon, it is such a shame that this promising machine has had a bit of a nervous breakdown.

canon wireless printer

No problems with set up - very easy to do, little disappointed with quality of photo prints, but wasn't purchased for that specifically; could just be the settings I'm using. Ink seems to be lasting too. Overall, very pleased!

Fantastic once set-up

I really needed a wireless printer as I now have multiple computers which require the use of a printer. I had the choice between the Canon, Lexmark and HP. I almost went for the Lexmark but I went for the Canon for a couple of reasons. Firstly the scanner. I already have a Canon scanner and it is fantastic. The user interface, software and performance is great. As i trusted the performance of this so much, i really decided the Canon would suit me better. Another reason was the package. The Canon is packaged in a neat compact all-in-one attractive design.

I have a Mac and a Windows based PC. Setting up the printer was a task. I may have missed the simple instructions, but the printer came with a bible sized manual. i got completely lost, even though the process was step-by-step. I think they tried too hard to simplify, instead if was off putting to read the instructions. I found better instructions on the web. There are forums which explain the installations in a few easy steps which the Canon manual could not. it goes to show Canon had over complicated this process. Windows set-up is more simpler. I am a little disappointed that the Mac set-up was not explained very well. The web forums showed how simple the Mac installation is, but Canon missed it completely.

It is important to have a good wireless connection. I had to add a wireless extender to increase the data flow between the printer and computers. This provides reliable printing and fast printing too. Check you have a good connection.

Once set-up, the printer is fantastic and the wireless feature is seamless. The print quality is great as expected, the scan is also top, but i particularly like the scan and transfer feature. I have scanned a document and wirelessly transferred a document in pdf straight from the printer. This is fantastic and a really useful feature. There are a few options with how to transfer copies and scans. The coloured LCD provides easy to use interface, even a novice can use. The scroll wheel is easy to navigate through menu options.

The inks are in their own individual coloured tanks. This is a good practice as only a single colour needs to be replaced if used rather than an entire tank. There are two black tanks, once large for high capacity printing and single CYM tanks - reduces cost of replacement.

There is also a memory card slots for direct printing of images from the card. There is some simple editing that can be done using the LCD and scroll wheel.

Finally there is a LAN connection and a USB, so there is plenty of connectivity options.

I would love to give 5 stars on performance, packaging and overall quality, but the set-up could have been simpler on the Mac and the manual certainly could be improved. If you are looking for a wireless printer, definitely consider this, but if you do but it, go on the web to understand how to install and configure this printer.

Very Good Quality

(4 out of 5) by Mr. D. Ash on Oct 30, 2009 (Birmingham, UK)
I bought this to replace an ageing Hewlett Packard printer, having owned a string of HPs over many years, both at work and at home. The Canon MP620 has really impressed me. It is easy to set up, even easier to use and, most importantly, comes with well-designed, versatile software. The quality of both printing and scanning is very high. It works quickly and without fuss. The only reason that I have not given it 5 stars is that the paper tray is a little awkward to get at. Owners with slimmer fingers may well want to give it the full, 5-star rating.
