Quality results from an uncomplicated camera
A perfect camera for anyone who wants to keep their photography simple. It doesn't have much in the way of gadgetry but if you look around when people are taking photos -few of them use anything more than point and press!
And the main thing is that it takes brilliant clear photographs.
I bought it as a Christmas present for my wife, the original technophobe, and she loves it. It has a large, bright, clear screen, visible even on a sunny day, which dims automatically after a few seconds to save battery life.
It has a simple mode wheel giving access to several scene modes. One of the scene modes is 'portrait'. In this mode face detection is included, giving the best possible focus for the main part of the picture and it automatically (and very successfully) removes red-eye. It also has a macro mode, and a stabilization (anti blur) mode.
It has a self-timer, and both optical zoom (5x) and digital zoom taking it to a maximum of 15x. You can also take videos at 30 frames per second and it has a slide show feature to review your pictures .
Any negative points? Well, the only one I can think of is that if you alter the settings (for example turn off the flash) they remain in that altered position even when the camera has been switched off and turned on again later. This means that you have to be aware of adjustments you've made and be prepared to reset them to the 'normal' setting afterwards.
If you're not David Bailey and just want to take good, reliable family and holiday photographs then I would certainly recommend this camera.

delighted with my new Fujifilm FinePix J100 digital camera
I am delighted with my J100 this is my first puchase of a digital camera recently purchased from Amazon. It is extremely easy to use and I am truly amazed with the results I am achieving. I have no hesitation in recommending both the camera and Amazon who provided an excellent service.

Fuji Finepix J100 digital cmaera
Great little camera at a great price from Amazon. Small and light enough to slip into a pocket but with good zoom capability and anti-shake it is perfect for capturing family and other events.

Terrible quality pictures and videos - don't buy!
We bought this camera for a family member and landed up taking it back.
The picture quality is shocking, everything is over-exposed. The colours in the pictures are terrible compared to other cameras.
It is incredibly slow from the time you press the button to the time the picture is taken. As a result, they will generally be out of focus.
The Video picture quality is terrible, the colours are not crisp and it had lines running through it, like noise.
The video files have no date taken stamp on them, which you may not think is a problem, but I do as I use that information.
The battery life is unforgiveable in this day and age.
All in all, choose another camera, you will not be happy with this purchase after a month.....

Fujifilm FinePix J100 Digital Camera
Fujifilm FinePix J100 Digital Camera - Silver (10MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 2.7" LCD
I bought this as a replacement for a digital Casio XLM camera which was knocked out of my hand and smashed by some idiot at a Coldplay gig! I had been happy in general with the Casio although the battery compartment was very flimsy so I decided to get something a bit more sturdy this time. I therefore went for the Fujifilm FinePix which has a sliding battery compartment.
I think most people would be relatively happy with it as a first digital camera although it is
- much heavier than the Casio
- sound/slideshow/general menu functions not as varied
- video function very disappointing - no facility to zoom in and out while video in progress
- not as user friendly as Casio
If I'd had the option of trying this out first, I would have purchased another Casio. They are a similar price but having used both, I am disappointed overall with the Fujifilm FinePix.
