Just like Sky but cheaper!
We got this so we could record TV programmes once we went digital. We didn't want to pay a lot as we had a perfectly good DVD/VCR player and recorder for existing videos etc. This was so easy to set up and is amazing. You can pause programmes if there is a phone call and just pick up where you left off. Record two programmes at once [great for the Strictly v XFactor debate] Even start watching a programme while the last half hour or so is still being recorded. How clever is that? We had awful trouble with the instruction book which seems to have been translated from Japanese by someone whose native language is Russian but we have found it fairly straightforward to work out for ourselves. We are over 60 and not technically minded so if we can do it anyone can. There was a bit of a blip when BBC went digital on 4 Nov but we rang Humax who e-mailed precise and clear instructions and we were back in business. Not noisy and neat and unobtrusive.

Good Buy If Flawed
Humax PVR 9150T is an excellent machine at a reasonable price. One annoyance I find is that when a series is set to record then all episodes, even repeats, are recorded. A waste of hard drive space and annoying to have to delete individual recordings. Also, the machine has 'hung up' twice in two weeks requiring a powering off and re-boot. When this happens in the midst of a recording it is most frustrating.

Humax PVR9150T
My wife bought this for me as a gift to replace our VHS video recorder. Having lived with the Humax for 4 weeks, I would recommend it highly. The controls are easy to use, even if the layout on the remote control is a littel quirky. The setup for advance recording using the EPG is easy and intuitive. It's certainly a lot simpler than fiddling around with timings on our old VCR, or even using VideoPlus. As we don't have Sky, we used a couple of Freeview digiboxes previously, and they seem prone to signal breakup / crashing. I'm pleased to report that the signal on the Humax is superb and we haven't had to reboot the machine once. The quality of the recordings is very good, and the automatic detection of beginnings / endings of programmes seems to work well.
As with other reviewers, I would admit there is some fan noise when the machine is on, but this is not excessive.
For anyone who wants an straight-forward machine, don't hesistate.

Easy to Use
Opened the box, plugged it in and off I went. Really easy to use. Good quality picture / sound. Dose what is says on the box. If you are looking for something easy to use that wont break the bank, this is the one to go for.

what hum?
what hum is every body going on about I turned up my hearing aid to full and still no hum,My lap to is the only thing I can hear.I recieved this Humax PVR-9150T at ten am by 11 am it had set its self up and then all I had to do was press a couple of buttons and I had set up my very fist digtal, disc less tape less recording since then have recorded two more progs,If you want a recorder that does what it says on the box then this is the one for you.If the hum a lot of people were going on about was in the previous machine then it is gone now.And Humax help line is as good as the machine got a green picture phoned them changed scart lead as advised picture as good as new digital T.V.The other great thing they do not tell you is that you can link a DVD or Tape player, recorder through the HUMAX so only one scart to trail to the T.V.Its that good my brother wants one now and he is, cautious about spending money and new technology. I give it Five
