fast, secure, easy software - very happy customer
Software easy to set up - even for the IT illiterate - and not mandatory if you do not want to use it; 5 yr Seagate guarantee worth something to me as I don't want the back up drive to fail; About as fast as USB 2 allows; First back up took ages but subsequent runs much faster as it updates changed files; Keep it unplugged and away from your machine and you have inexpensive "off-site" backup.

Fast and works well
Whilst this external hard drive can be used to perform regular back ups using the included software I bought it to store things like photos that I don't want to lose or delete by mistake and also to store a back up image of my hard drives - should the worst happen.
Easy to connect up, comes with a two pin and three pin power adapter and a quick start guide. Just connected up the usb lead and the power and it installed itself automatically - pretty simple stuff. Initial image back up of my 320Gb system using Seagate's DiscWizard took less than an hour and a half.
Good enough for me and the 5 year guarantee gives real peace of mind.

Works a treat
Bought 2 of these disks and they work very well. Wanted a USB drive for a server and these work because they have an external power supply

Good external drive, lousy lead - at first
Seagate external drives are a good product, as good as they come. My winge concerns the power lead. It came with a strange clip-together two prong Euro plug. By the time I plugged this into a UK adapter, the whole thing looked a right Heath Robinson piece of kit. Am I along in feeling out in the sticks, when we are provided with jury-rigged leads to help us cope with our archaic power system? Don't forget we led the World in the era that these things were set up. That's why we drive on the left, have AC current, funny traffic lights, etc etc. For their failure to deal sensibly with our eccentricities, by providing a good British 3 pin power plug, I'm going to mark them down 2 stars.
I'm adding this bit at a later date. It transpires that someone failed to include a clip-on 3 pin adapter, when the original package was sent. Not so Heath-Robinson now. So up to 4 stars then (only 4 because someone goofed)
(Another add-on) I'm advised that the adapter was probably buried in cardboard, within the box. If it WAS a stealth adapter, it ended up in the waste bin. What I have learned from this experience is 1. Double check the package. 2. After making arrangements for the original drive to be collected and replaced NEVER offer to keep and pay for the original drive as well, if I was credited for an adapter I had purchased before I decided to contact Amazon for a replacement drive. It created a loop of misunderstanding between myself and Amazon that just wasn't really worth the hassle. When arrangements are made, try not to amend them......

Seagate 500GB external hard drive
Being a non technical type,I was pleasantly surprised to find it falls into the "plug in and play" category of computer apparatus. Set up procedure was laid out in a series of easy to follow steps and it was up and running within 15 minutes.
Very impressed, the on line support, and product registration was very quick to make itself known. Altogether excellent first impression. Regards George B.
