great,worth the money
just bought this item today and it's great, i can now bug my whole family with my music:):) The sound quility is very good and can go to a very loud volume(only need it turned a quarter of the way up and it completely fills my bedroom with music) cd's work fine in it, the radio seems good too and the best part is the ipod dock. I recently got an ipod touch 2nd generation and my old speakers didn't work with it, in shops i tried my ipod touch out on speakers but it didnt work on them either(as the ipod is quite a new realise and the speakers were made before hand) but my ipod touch 2nd gen works great with this, just thought i'd make that clear as on the discription for this product it says ipod touch is compatable but doesn't show it is compatable with 2nd gen compared to it telling you it is compatble with ipod nano 1/2/3 gen.
Overall it is well worth buying as it works with a number of ipods and you can also listen to your cds and radio for what i'd say a very reasonable price.

Philips Ipod Docking System is excellent
Bought this for my son for Christmas, and it has been a great success. It means that he can charge his ipod, and also listen to the music with his friends. Very reasonable price too.

Too much to ask for?
All I want is a portable stereo system styled as a 'gettoblaster' from the 80's with decent sound quality. Surely, this isn't too much to ask?
This system has a nice design, especially the way that you can slot the ipod safely away in front, much the same way you used to add cassetts all those years ago.
I would suggest that this is an ideal present for a child, in that this system is a toy and not a serious portable stereo system.
The build quality is not very high, and the action on the cd flap is very poor. The system has no graphic equalizer or remote control, which is a shame.
If you try and use the controls of the system to skip tracks on the ipod then the speakers loose the signal from the ipod and have to retune, which really interferes with your listening pleasure.
Worst of all thought this system has no real bass or volume to it. If you use the bass button the result is just a slight drop in tone with some muffeling, or at maximum volume the speakers just distort.
It would be fine for listening to in the bedroom whislst getting ready to go out. But would not cut though the chatter of a BarBQ.
I have sent this back to Amazon and continue to await a product that meets my requirements.

Will not charge new iPod Touch
I purchased this iPod Docking Entertainment System for our kitchen/dining room mainly to listen to CDs and the radio, but with the added extra of my sons being able to play their iPod music and charge their iPods. However, do not expect this iPod Docking Entertainment System to be able to charge a new iPod Touch! I contacted Philips and they confirmed that it cannot charge the new iPod Touch, they can only be charged via USB. This is quite annoying and should be on the product spec!

Not enough bass!
Having invested in my first ipod and with my CD player being bust I thought I'd go for the Philips iPod docking entertainment system.
It's cool that there is a radio and that it is compatible with the iPod Nano. However, the sound quality is not great!-other than the DBB and volume there isn't anything to adjust sound. The DBB button just makes everything sound tinny. Not enough bass for my liking. Am missing remote control and I'd worry that the iPod docking point could get dusty too. Looks wise-I think the iPod dock looks a bit untidy for the model iPod I have. Price wise I guess it's not too bad for what it is-but on reflection I think I would go for a different option.
