brilliant at this price....
bought this instead of the the "toy" cameras that seem to be popular for kids... this is FAR superior in every way, cheaper - and with only the most minimal coaching our 5 year old is happily snapping away creating great pics using the full auto settings...
recommended as a surprisingly good gift for youngsters or newbies to digital cameras..

Ace camera
This camera is the best i have had, it takes great photo's and records video as well. the quailty is great too. I used it on new years eve for the video and i'm very impressed with it. It takes AA batteries and uses SD cards. Go on buy it you won't be dissapointed

FinepixA850 Review
I bought this camera for my daughter as her first camera & it is excellent, super quality photos & videos.
One minor complaint is it uses AA batteries & gets through them quite quickly. the answer is to use rechargables which we do.

shame about the batteries
The camera looked good, lots of features and took some decent quality pictures and film for the price. BUT two AA duracell plus batteries did not last the first day and that's with minimum usage ie. 10 shots and less than a minute of film. Shame.

Disappointing
This was our 4th Fuji Finepix over the last few years, and for the 1st time, it's a let down. The image for an 8.5mp camera is poorer than our previous 5mp V10. The control of the camera through the menu is slower and less accessible than the others, which means we tend to leave it set on auto, and not use it for anything too adventurous.
However, the two factors that REALLY disappoint are the chroma noise, evident at ISO 400 and above (It only goes to 800), and the fact that it eats batteries. It uses 2x MN1500 batteries, and I have to carry two sets with me when I leave the house, as it will only give about 25-30 shots per set, even using NiMH 2500s'.
OK, it's a budget point & shoot compact, but I have come to expect better from Fuji.
