another no-frills, no-nonsense device from philips
I found this player to be the one that is best value (feb 2009) for money in the category of mp3 players I can use my own batteries with.
Frankly, I'm tired of having to get a custom charger with custom cables and custom connectors for or with every new device I ever get (eg. phones).
It's always the same old story: after a year or two, the custom charger usually refuses to recharge the custom battery, which usually means I have to start snipping and soldering or throw the whole thing in the bin with disgust!
So now I can use my rechargeable NiCads which have lasted for 15 years already.
As one might expect, the earphones it comes with aren't very great, but as I use it when jogging, I would never use earphones anyway.
Another thing I like is that it's so light it probably wouldn't break if I dropped it. Also, if it rains, it's so small my hand alone suffices to keep it dry.
PS it works fine with Microsoft Vista.
