great radio

(4 out of 5) by Mrs. M. Pattinson on Jun 10, 2009
This is great.

Follow instructions or you might not get a good battery life

I also found that i struggled to get clear reception in parts of my house and out in the open countyside. However it is a great little radio very useful in the garden and for camping but it also is great for the home (i move mine around the house and i don't have to move a power cable)

My only reservation is that the radio has to be switched on to charge the battery

Delighted

(5 out of 5) by S.cam Watcher on May 5, 2009 (UK)
It does what it says on the box and is a delightful little thing to own!
Simple black on white display is clear and readable without spectacles.
Charges while switched off, although this is neither stated or denied in the manual. Never needs charging in the summer.

Nice looking, but poor battery life

(2 out of 5) by M. G. Blackery on Jul 5, 2009 (Basildon Essex UK)
I ordered this radio from Amazon and received it on 25th June 2009.
I read the instructions carefully and charged the battery for 26 hours before using it. I have only used it for about an hour each morning while I got ready for work, and it was always in a position where it could catch any available sunlight.
Now, 10 days later, the battery is FLAT, so all those wild exaggerated claims about 'only charged once' seems dubious to me.
Remember the old saying - 'If it seems too good to be true then it probably is'.

Overall, very good

(4 out of 5) by P. Newell on Jun 4, 2009 (UK)
It doesn't trickle charge the internal battery when switched off, which annoyed me a little at first, but I think that is to prevent the batteries being overcharged. The solar cell tops up the battery in use and can extend the run-time indefinitely if used in direct sunlight.

Usability and sound quality are good for a small radio.

Roberts Solar DAB Radio

(5 out of 5) by D. Johnson on Oct 18, 2009 (UK)
I bought this because I wanted a radio which I could use outdoors, but I didn't want to have to keep buying batteries for it, especially as DAB is so power-hungry. The radio charges up well even when it is switched off. My only concern was that white plastic might go yellow in the sun over a number of years, but I wasn't keen on any of the other colours, so I went for the white one anyway, and I'll just have to see what happens. The sound quality is excellent - Roberts really do put money into a good speaker, and I'd recommend this radio on that alone. All in all - a good buy - I'm really pleased with my purchase.
