Excellent product, skype suitable, easy to install
I bought this for a family member specifically to do video calls using Skype. It was very simple to install using the cd supplied and only required a few manual tweaks of the camera front to get the focus right for a brilliant picture. Would recommend this as a mid-budget camera with good quality picture - it is as good as my more expensive webcam (boo-hoo!). Phillips webcams in this series in my experience are easy to install and use, and provide a good quality picture.

Philips SPC530NC Webcam
Very impressed with the quality of this product. My existing webcam did not work on Ubuntu 9.04, and the driver for Windows 7 was not available, so was interested in a "driverless" webcam.
I have a Toshiba Tecra M1 laptop, and the versatile clip enables the webcam to clip onto the top of the screen. On Windows 7 the webcam worked out the box with Skype, giving very good quality pictures and sound with the built-in microphone. On the downside don't bother with the software on the supplied disc.
Using the Ubuntu 9.04 on the same laptop, I installed the "Cheese" application, this enables the webcam to take still shots, and video clips. Again the webcam worked straight out of the box, without a driver. Skype works well in Ubuntu, and the webcam was detected straight away.
I would recommend this driverless webcam, for Windows 7, should work with Vista, and definately works with Linux Ubuntu 9.04, should work with most other Linux distros as well.
