Usual Epson ink rip off
The printer is SLOW, NOISY, and BIG
compared, for example, to the HP all in one.
If you really must buy this, then buy it with
the two sets of compatible inks. Amazon are
pushing the inks as a "buy together" option.
I assume the inks will work, but Epson use
every chip in the book to get reasonably priced
inks rejected.

Good value for the occasional user, BUT no USB cable!!!
I bought this printer on this site for forty pounds (a special offer) on impulse - I reasoned that there are only a few times that I need to print anything, and to have the added options of being able to photocopy and scan made it seem almost too good to turn down.
It's constructed of very light plastic which doesn't feel like it would survive any sort of impact, so I'm going to have to be really careful with it, and the child will have to stay away too. The lid is a nice glossy black which looks nice.
It makes a lot of noise; if this was a car, the doors would shut with a clang, rather than with that reassuring clunk that you get with expensive ones... but this is strictly a budget model - if you want luxury, you'll be spending bigger money on a much flashier machine.
Setting up was easy, although I had a brief moment of puzzlement figuring out where the grey sliding thing in the paper feeder should be positioned (the answer is 'as far to the left as possible, then slide it up against the paper'). It does take a bit of time for all the programs to load from the CD.
My only source of HUGE annoyance with this machine was the absence of a USB cable - luckily I have two external hard drives and was able to use one of the cables from them - it has the same socket, positioned on the left-hand side of the machine; judging by the length of most USB cables, this might be something to take into consideration if you need to be specific about exactly where you put the printer. Is it usual for a printer to be supplied without a USB cable? Seems really stupid to me.
All in all, well worth the money so far - I have docked a star because of the lack of cable - in my opinion, a product of this kind should be ready to use straight out of the box.

Noisy, awkward.
This Epson replaces a Brother DPC 115C which died when the ink dried inside the printer heads. The Epson looks nice and is easy to connect with the PC.
The disadvantages are as follows: the scanning surface is not horizontal so single pages slide before you close the cover. This is a fundamentally stupid design characteristic.
The top of the machine is not horizontal either. If you have limited desk space and tend to use the top of your printer a place to stack papers and books, this means the printer takes up desk top real estate that can't do double duty.
The gravity paper feed is unreliable and often needs "help" to get going.
The machine is extremely noisy and jerky in its operation.
It does not come with a USB cable.
The changing of ink cartridges is frustating: following the manual's instructions involves watching the cartridge carriage sliding back and forth for no reason. The carriage will not stop in the required place to allow the ink pack to be changed and you will have to manually help it into position. Put another way, the six-step instruction path in the manual is a not accurate or reliable guide to changing the ink. Print quality is okay. Speed is alright.
The Canon DPC 115C was better.

Good everyday printer
A good everyday multi-function printer. Very easy to set up, and connected with Vista with no problems. Rather large because of the photocopier/scanner, but looks good. Very simple to use and produces good quality prints at a reasonable speed. Would recommend to anyone who wants an everyday printer/photocopier/scanner for home use.
