Buy this system!

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Kevin P. Teasdale on Jan 31, 2009 (Newton Aycliffe, England)
This is the best system I've heard at this price.
The auto setup was childs play and it sounds awesome. The volume is LOUD and sounds like a quality piece of gear, the volume almost doubles in the last few digits up to an undistorted max at which point you need to scream at the person next to you to be heard. The bass is amazing for such a small unit - which IS most definately powered, and it coped with even the most demanding 'Dream Theater' tracks thrown at it.
I nearly bought a completely different system after reading the other two reviews here, but they seem to imagine speakers can produce sound by themselves; you have to run the sound cables to them and if they were individually powered you would have to run the power to them, where is the problem? At least there are no trailing wires from the TV to the back of the room. The S-Air system will also allow additional speakers to be placed around the house!

Not impressed

(2 out of 5) by Tushar Tripathi on Jan 2, 2009 (London, UK)
I evaluated multiple options and then settled for DZ860W. I must say that I am not at happy with this system. Here are things which I don't like
- There is hardly any bass (sub-woofer is passive thus does not generate enough depth).
- Movies is ok, but music is really flat. If you want to use this for listening music then please look some where else. During movies many times it was not able to handle the range.
- There are hardly any options to control the quality of sound. Imagine a 400 quid sound system with no sound controls.
- Most of the good connection option are only available on the Digital media port and guess what it is an optional extra.
- Remote is a bit cluttered with many useless keys.
- It cannot play many regular music format, so please check the list of media files it can play before buying this.

All in all, if you are looking for something which can give you good performance for movies and music, then please do not take this system. For movies take this only if you have exhausted other option.

I got the set two days back and I am planning to return it back, the only problem is that this system have more then 100 parts which needs to be dismantled and repacked (and that will be a nightmare).

Regards

Tushar

"Wireless"

(2 out of 5) by Hulk Hogan on Jan 2, 2009 (Glasgow)
Just bought this item from amazon for the wireless rear speaker capability. When i opened the box and started to set up i found the s-air unit.Wondering what this was for i checked the manual to find out that to use the wireless speakers you must insert a card into the back of the amplifier, the s-air unit must also have a card inserted and plugged into a power supply. Then you must run cable from s-air unit to the rear speakers therfore not wireless. Also there is no hdmi in port just one out port for connection to your tv.

Sony DAV DZ860W Review

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Vinod Mehta on Feb 7, 2009 (London)
I took delivery of this system a week ago. I have linked it to my Sony KDL46W4500U LCD TV via HDMI and SkyPlus box via Optical cable. The DAVDZ860W in this combination is amazing and is just pure joy. Watching movies on good DVDs is more than home cinema - puts you in the middle of the scenes with realistic sounds of loud explosions, bullets flying across the room, helicopters shaking the floor and furniture, etc. all happening around you - loud and clear - and that's on half volume! The system also delivers fantastic sound effects from my Sky Plus box - with the Sky Plus sound output set to Dolby. And the built-in AM FM tuner also delivers great hifi quality sound. And it plays my music CDs including MP3 discs and from my other gadgets via the USB port. And I have also got a separate connection from my TV sound output via left and right Line phono input to enjoy great sound when watching Freeview movies on Digital TV. This DAVDZ860W has everything I wanted and more. Well done Sony.

Sony DAV-DZ860 5.1 Home Cinema

(4 out of 5) by Bike Mad on Feb 4, 2009 (Edinburgh, Scotland)
Sony DAV-DZ860 5.1 ch - Tallboy - Home Cinema System with Surround Sound - Black. I am not one for really loud sound, although this system can still deliver if needed. The sound itself is quite clear apart from a slight hiss from the rear surround speakers. This could possibly be due to the fact that they are wireless. It is fairly easy to set up, but if you are like me (not too good with technology advanced items), then I suggest reading the book before switching on. The only problem I have is there is a delay between the sound and the picture, but there is a function to correct this. Unfortunately I still have not found how to do it. Back to reading the book.
