Superb HDD/DVD Recorder
Really impressed with this machine. Very quite operation, thorough manual and easily understood. Remote control is very sensitive to the touch - so you have to be careful when you pick it up or lay it down so that it doesn't transmit functions to the recorder. Over 100 hours of recording space on the HDD at normal recording mode. Lots of clever functions for editing, recording, dubbing, etc; Highly recommend.

Great Value & easy to use
I got this DVD Recorder to replace an old Panasonic which used discs. This is very much easier and more convenient due to the large capacity hard drive. If you're looking for a DVD recorder which is easy to set up and use look no further. For a little over £200 it's tremendous value.

Good Recorder but widesceen problems
This is a very competent recorder, but has problems with one of the broadcaster's multiplex encoding. Some channels are being reduced from wide-screen 16:9 to 4:3 clipping the sides off. Film 4 to name one.
When the problem is fixed by free-view who is to say that something like this won't happen again?
Looks like I'll be replacing this Sony with a Panasonic in the future!
A shame as I really like this recorder :(

Sony, so good
The quality of the recordings on the hard-drive are excellent and I love the predictive advert breaks/chapters so you can edit out a film or programme's commercial breaks. Recording programmes took a little getting used to and the set up but like a typical bloke I tried setting it up without instructions.
There's tons of space at 250Mb and I have around 5 films and 6 TV shows to catch up with and that's not even a 6th full. Another great reason for buying this was ability to play any region DVD. If you have Sky, you still need to record as a separate line in. There's HDMI socket as well which apparently upscales to 1080p - useful for when I get an HDTV later this year.
At around £200 this has been one of the best purchases I've made in ages and serve a good life until I have enough for Sky HD+.
