Top Quality Budget Price

(5 out of 5) by Mr. R. J. Deacon on Oct 1, 2008 (UK)
Having managed to wreck two Accoustic Solutions surround systems I thought it about time to invest in something better. The Sony - STR-DG520 was selected because it had good reviews and came at a price that did'nt upset the boss of the house. The unit offers plenty of inputs to allow the user to hook the system ut to a varity of sources. In use the system works well with a good bright sound without sounding shrill, theres plenty of bass on hand which makes watching blockbusters litterly blockbusting. Overall when teamed with the Yamaha NSP110 Speaker system offers the user a quality sound system for a little over £200.00, you could spend a lot more and still get less.

A quick word of thanks to Hughes Direct who supplied the system, execelent service chaps.

STR_DG520 AV Amplifier

(5 out of 5) by Snagglepuss27 on Jan 21, 2009 (Devon England)
I purchased and installed the DG-520 about 6 months ago and it's proved to be an excellent amplifier. I have build a new extension as an extra lounge and installed a cinema-surround sound system as the centre piece, so the verstility of the DG-520 has really paid off.
The full system comprises of : Panasonic TH-37PX80B 37" Plamsa TV, Panasonic DVD-S511 and Yamaha NS-P110 5.1 speaker system. I have also used the amplifier with a Sony NS700V DVD player.
The DG520 connection options cover all eventualities including HDMI.
It was very easy to set up and the supplied microphone enabled the system to the calibrated once everything was installed.

Pros - fantastic sound, very flexible connection options, looks great, easy to set up and use.
Cons (minor observations really) - power supply hum (noticable during quiet passages of music), yet another remote - I have a total of four for this system.

Good but with some limitations

(3 out of 5) by C. J. Wilber on Mar 1, 2009 (Derby, UK)
The performance of audio is good, but there are limitations when pairing with hdmi.
I have sky Hd and a ps3. It is not possible with the 520 to connect both via hdmi for video and optical for audio. The two optical inputs are tied to the video inputs:
hdmi blueray input is tied to optical blueray audio input
hdmi dvd input is tied to coax dvd audio input.
I solved the problem by only using the 520 to handle the audio, and passed the hdmi video straight to the TV.
It should also have been possible to have the PS3 send the audio through the hdmi cable to the 520, but I couldn't get that to work.
The manual is not a model of clarity!
