Best size/quality for your pounds

(5 out of 5) by A. Pinto on Oct 19, 2008 (Exeter, United Kingdom)
The positive reviews you read everywhere assure you this is a good product. From my experience, it's silent, fast and reliable. The best quality/size you can currently get for you pounds.

poor amazon packing damaged drive

(5 out of 5) by liverpool rule ok on Nov 4, 2008 (uk)
be careful when ordering this item, with free super saver delivery it might be sent like my item was in a plain small cd/dvd/book packing carton from amazon and was damaged in transit and when posted in to my letter box it took a big drop shock on to hard floor denting the outer corner of the disk. i have contacted amazon regarding posting hardrives in this poor way and my only hope to other buyers is there took notice of my anger regarding poor packing and delivery of such oem harddrives (non boxed) in the post. diskdrives need care when delivered and not treated in the same manner as a book or dvd. these item need to run for a long time and hold very important data. amazon have kindly sent replacement item out and i do hope there packaged item better as there still sending with royal mail. if not it will be sent back for a full refund.

you have been warned...

WD 640gb hard drive

Like other buyers - mine was very poorly packed. However it worked OK. Amazon really need to consider the packaging of such items - common sense really.

Does the job, no quibbles

(5 out of 5) by A. DEVINE on Nov 19, 2008 (Edinburgh)
Received this 3 days after ordering using the Super Saver delivery, came in a box wrapped in the anti static cover, bubble wrap, a layer of cardboard, heavy paper packing material and then all in a cardboard box. Not sure what all the fuss is about with it being delivered in poor condition, maybe I got lucky but there was no problem at all.

Anyway, the disk works perfectly, took a bloody age to format but then it does have 600GB of usable space.

All I need now is a disk enclosure with a gigabit ethernet card to take advantage of the huge speed that this apparently offers.

Fast and massive but randomly lost all data

(3 out of 5) by J. Karamath on Mar 3, 2009 (Oxford, UK)
This is indeed a lightening fast, big ol' drive and no mistake. Can't fault it there. Also it comes with a decent length warranty, an item that i cannot stress enough is vital for hard-drives these days. Mine lost all the data I put on it after 3 months (it lost the partition tables I believe, since I was able to recovery the data thankfully, but still very annoying). I could have sent it back due to this warranty but kept the faith and now it *seems* to be working fine. Recommended? Yes, but only cos it has that warranty, the experience has left my faith in Western Digital a little tattered...
