Quality Sound

(5 out of 5) by Mr T on Jun 6, 2009
Got this after getting a new Samsung tv, so was looking for something that worked as easily as possible and matched the tv aesthetics - this fitted the bill perfectly, and is significantly cheaper than the HT X715 system, although offering identical specifications.

The tall-boy speakers are only really practical if the room you intend to use the system in has the space, as they are imposingly tall, while also possessing a large circular stand, which makes it difficult to hide them beside furniture.

In terms of the most important feature, the sound, this system comes up trumps. Bass is deep and shaking, while the higher ranging sounds are crisp and clear. There is a supplied sound configuring microphone which aims to set up your speaker levels in order to create the best sounding experience, however upon using it myself it failed to identify the front left and right speakers.

The system itself has a large variety of settings, relating to different uses for the system, i.e. Music playing, movies etc. The unit handles DVD's well too, upscaling to 1080P in the process, which is nice. It's not blu-ray quality, but there is a noticable improvement over standard DVD quality.

I had two small grievances with the system. firstly, the lack of connections for external inputs is disappointing. There is only one optical input, and no coaxial at all. This means that for connecting obvious things like TV boxes (sky, virgin etc) and consoles (Xbox, Playstation) you need to buy separate connections in order to have them all connected at the same time. I ended up purchasing three more optical cables, and a 3 in one TOSlink switch:
HQ Optical TOSlink 3 Port Switch
This simple item lets you connect all your accessories to the system, and only requiring you to switch the input via a handy button.

My second grievance with the system relates to the speaker cables - each are of different length based on what they reckon your room will be set up, however the bigger problem is that the connections are a proprietry make, meaning that any old speaker cable that you may already have laid will not plug into the back of the system, as each speaker cable has a plug as opposed to the two standard + and - wires.

However, once connected, all my electronics work perfectly with the system, and sound great! I highly recommend this system to anyone looking for a sleek and aesthetically pleasing design, as well as excellent performing sound.

Great value - looks and sound wise

(5 out of 5) by alexandra robinson on May 24, 2009
For an entry level system, this is a great purchase.

Looks wise, co-ordinates with my LE40A856 perfectly.

Easy to use, especially the auto set up feature which sets the volume of each speaker perfectly depending where you have located them in the room.

Loud enough for a 35 ft x 20 ft living room, easily - we have not had volume up more than halfway, for fear of scaring the neighbours (and our house is detached...)

All in all, well worth the money. They even threw in a thingummy to isolate the DVD player, to elimate "noise" from the electricity circuit (no mention of this in the instructions, but that is what the white plastic thingummy is with the magnet in it - I looked it up on t'internet)..

Samsung HT-TX715T/XEU

(3 out of 5) by S. C. Williams on Feb 8, 2009 (Bexley, Kent UK)
Not sure I would buy this product again, the size and shape of the main unit make it difficult to use especially if you want to put it on the shelf of a normal TV stand it can be placed either flat or standing on end but flat makes it difficult to read the display and on end makes it difficult to insert a DVD. Sound quality is as you would expect from a product of this price range.

Brilliant!

it's been about a month since a bought this system, and all great! I'm not and expert, spent quite alot of time to decide especially as this is my first home cinema. Didn't if a shall go for sony or samsung or anything else. I don't even know why I chose this altough it wasn't on my list as there are no much reviews about it on the web.

The item arrived on time, the packaging was huge.... and I mean HUGE!! the system in general is quite big, so make sure you got the space for it, though i live in a one-bed apartment and my living room is not that big, but everything is set nicely at the moment. Built quality is very nice, the system is super stylish, looks really nice and match the look of my samsung plasma TV.

Setting the system up took 10 mins only, very easy and convenient. I'm connecting my Sky HD box and PS3 to this, sound quality is absolutely beautiful!! You don't need to be expert to appreciate and feel a high quality sound! It is nice, could be louder though, but the volume still very powerful. You get different sound settings: music, stereo, cinema, matrix, and pro logic. The difference is explained in the manual, the stereo setting for example produced sound only from 3 speakers instead of the all 5, giving very powerful and loud sound, where the cinema mode produces the sound as 5.1 surrounded which gives more realistic feel to the movie.

The nice bit is when you connect your Ipod to this system and use it as a hi fi, believe me everyone complemented the outcome sound when using the ipod on stereo setting!! Amazing! especially if your files were of high quality. Using the system radio was nice as well, yet to mention the ability of playing bluetooth devices and usb.

And negative bit as mentioned somewhere here is the one optical input! you need optical cable to connect for example your sky hd, so if had a PS3 or a blu ray player you need another optical cableSo either you keep changing and connecting the one you use to the system every time you use it, or use the 3 port switch mentioned in another review here.

overall very happy with this system and would highly recommend it.
