ixus 970is purchased for my wife because it -
1.has an optical wiewfinder,
2.its screen is much brighter than her previous compact,
3. it is small & well constructed.
Result - she is delighted with it & has only 2 reservations - the power button is not as easy to use, & it is harder to turn off the flash.
Photos are excellent(even of the TV screen).

This camera is excellent in that it is only 10 MP as anything else larger is a waste of time. It has a view finder, it has all the facilities to control the camera admittedly by multiple button control but isn't everything these days. It is very handy and slips easily into your pocket.
to be able to carry with you at all times. The results printed out are good. As with all compact cameras it has its limitations and as long as you do not push those limitations to far you should get good results. However this camera has been replaced by later models and is now not so easy to obtain and in the near future probably be no longer available

I have been amazed at the photographs this little camera can produce! The zoom gives fantastic results which are just astonishing. Its great to put in your handbag and just go. Very easy to carry around without having to lug around a big SLR. The choice of using the view finder or the screen is also good too. If anyone is looking to make a good purchase, this is the one.

I have had this product for nearly a month now and I am very happy with it. After reading some other reviews I was a bit wary of it but then nearly every camera has had some negative points.

Someone mentioned that the button to turn it on and off is very small and hard to use... that person must have fingers the size of sausages with no nails because it is very simple, it's difficult to turn it on by accident and that in my opinion is a GOOD point.

Also it was mentioned about the shape of the camera makes it difficult to keep hold of, I have had no such problems and it does come with a strap so for the nervous ones out there use that.

Reviewing photos is easy, some simple editing can be done as well. It's response time in taking photos is great, much better than my earlier camera. It has some nice modes to use, stitch assist is very good if you want to do wide panaromic shots. The digital Macro (close up) mode is fantastic, I've taken hundreds of these photos and I am amazed at the clarity of the close up shots.

the only negative aspects would be that the little wheels to switch between the different modes can take a little getting used to and the major gripe would be that the memory card supplied is only suitable for 10 photos, this is poor, if you're paying out so much for the camera it would be nice to be able to take a few more.

So all in all I'd recommend this camera but definitely recommend purchasing an SDHC card at the same time.

fantastic pictures. the only better compact is the 12 mega pixal canon but that does not have a wide angle lens . the 12 meg one is manual and auto and this one is fully auto i have an slr canon also and i really dont know why you would want manual on a compact as they are for quick fire handy shots . i must say that the quality of the slr and this camera for picture quality is only noticeable in certain shots ie portraits the colour and texture of the eyes do not stand out but this compact is utterly brilliant for a compact and outdoors there is little difference in quality between my slr and this camera . its a must buy you will not find better
