Pure brilliance!

(5 out of 5) by Mr. David I. Bradshaw on Nov 21, 2008
I upgraded to this from my older ixus sd400. I was more than happy with my old camera, it was tiny and took great photos - it was starting to show signs of age and neglect so I treated myself.......... and what a treat!! The 970is is slightly bigger than some previous ixus models, but the extra size is worth it for the increased optical zoom. I have taken photos of my friends wakeboarding and been amazed at the results - shaking boat, moving target, bright sun, water and sky - tricky photgraphy normally but this camera has taken some beautifull shots.
All the extra features are great fun and very arty too - colour accent and swap are great - you can change the colour of things - such as turn the sky green, or take black n white photos with one extra colour such as a red car to a black n white background.
great camera, easy to use, brilliant photos.... buy one!!!

Not just a camera....

(5 out of 5) by Laszlo Tapolcai on Oct 3, 2008 (Switzerland)
It is not often that one falls in love with an object, but I have.I used to have a manual Nikon SLR back in the "good old days" and thought for the last 20 years that nothing could replace it. I was wrong. Technically this gem is phenominal, the zoom is astounding and for me a 50 year old highly suspicious of all things digital , it is a revelation. Linking up to the Canon site you can easily download your images, work on them, creat your own albums and send them to freinds. I use it as a visual diary. My only complaint is that the Canon site limits you to 100mb but I am working on that.It has opened doors for me which I thought were technically truly closed.Brilliant

A superb camera.

(5 out of 5) by Barrie Durrent on Sep 19, 2008 (London UK)
Apart from its excellent design, solid feel, ease of use and brilliant results where this camera scores over the competition is that it has an optical viewfinder. The LCD screen on most cameras is useless in bright sunshine. The results so far have been most impressive. Also I must once again congratulate Amazon on its superb service I ordered the camera on Monday and it arrived Wednesday.

difficult-to-operate on/off button

(5 out of 5) by I. Smith on Sep 18, 2008 (herts UK)
I have just acquired an IXUS970, but haven't used it much yet. It seems fine, but potential purchasers should be aware that the on/off button can seem difficult to operate until you get the knack (push and hold in with something solid (eg your fingernail) until it turns on/off; merely pushing it in with your finger is unlikely to do the trick). Initially, i thought the camera was faulty, but then read some expert reviews which confirmed this quirk (one review suggested that this is a negative aspect of the camera, though it's no doubt designed to prevent accidental turn on in pocket/bags etc).

Little Wonder!

(5 out of 5) by Carol on Aug 15, 2008 (Birmingham UK)
This has so many features to chooses from and very easy to use.As an ameature, this little camera can only help improve my pictures. I wish I had bought it sooner.I am a convert from my Canon EOS 500, a 35ml film format- digital is so much easier to use. I would be lost with out the Canon Ixus970 compact camera. No more blured or out of focus photos!
