Hugely disappointing
I cannot comment on the quality or otherwise of this item because I was unable to even get it to display a picture on my TV- either it is incompatible with 3 year old TV or the VCR was defective in some way. I spent an entire afternoon trying to puzzle my way through the instruction book and eventually came to the conclusion that I would stick with the old Sony VCR which has no DVD writer, but only which took me about 5 minutes to install.
Bells and whistle are fine, but you do need to be at least get it up and running to start with...and don't even think about ringing the Pansonic helpdesk over the weekend because it will be shut - I wonder when most people buy/install electrical items ?

User UNfriendly
My elderly, but not doddery, father bought one of these two months ago. He has complained constantly about how illogical it is and how impossible it is to operate. I managed to restrain him from hurling it out of the window until I took a good look at it. Having done so, I have to say it is the most un-intuitive, illogical, complicated and irritating operating system I have come across. We have decided to get rid of it ASAP!
Unless you are a real techno lover, don't buy this. If you want a machine that just does the basic stuff with DVDs and videotapes, don't buy this. Be warned!

Good overall but Noisy
Having bought this for my in-laws to replace an old failing video
player he was very impressed with all the features, Especially copying old
Video's to DVD. The only thing that let the unit down was the noise it made when the video player was playing or recording. The Noise of the video heads/motors is about 3 times louder than his old LG video player or any video players i own (the fan in the back of the unit is quiet). During certain scenes of a movie the noise is very distracting / irritating. I've read a few reviews and several people have now mentioned this high pitch noise. If just using the DVD or when switching the unit on the motors of the video player section turn off after a couple of minutes which make it silent. It may just of been the unit i received and may quieten down over time. As the In-laws have the TV quiet loud (getting old) they put up with the noise but i could not. I'd advise going into a shop and pressing the on button to hear how loud this unit is before buying one.
