Good for the money

(3 out of 5) by dogmontydog on Dec 10, 2008 (UK)
The system is good value for the money and it certainly is loud. However I found that there is alot of settings that need adjusting to get the best out of this system. The booklet is quite hard going and to have all the functions from one remote control means 2 or 3 functions on some buttons.
Its best to set it up then use it for a few weeks then re visit the instructions to make amendments - of course I may be just fussy, but if you want to get something straight out if the box, turn it on and expect excellent sound, I would not recommend this system, go for a simpler one (I previously owned a Sony basic system with scart connections and the sound was almost as good as this and very easy to set up / use)
Essestial connections for the best sound and picture HDMI and optical cable.

Great kit but in no way future proof!

(2 out of 5) by Mr. A. E. W. Rogers on Mar 26, 2009
The system itself is excellent. Good sound and easy to use. Unfortunately, I have found huge limitations with the system following an upgrade to blu-ray and purchase of separate amp. The unit is not compatible in any way. I cannot even use hdmi audio out to take my ipod sound to the amp. Take my advice, if you are likely to consider blu-ray or upgrading to HD in the future, spend the extra now and steer clear of this unit.

NEED TO CHECK COMPATIBILITY WITH YOUR CURRENT EQUIPMENT

(2 out of 5) by FRANKL FAN on Dec 8, 2008 (High Wycombe UK)
I bought this item to replace a home cinema system in which the cd player had stopped working and was unrepairable. What I didn't realise was that there is only one scart connection on the Panasonic. My previous home cinema system had a scart in and a scart out. This meant I could hook up a decoder inbound by scart and then hook up outbound by scart to my tv. The Panasonic offers HDMI outbound, but my tv - being around five or six years old - is too old to have an HDMI connection. The equipment is in my holiday home, so I don't want to have to buy a new tv etc, in order to be able to use this home cinema system. If I was using it in my main house, then perhaps I would change the rest of my system. Apart from that, I'm sure the comments of other users regarding the sound etc are correct, but I didn't get a chance to find out.

Big Disappointment

(1 out of 5) by J. A. Creek on Mar 2, 2009 (Chelmsford, Essex)
I have several Panasonic items and have always been pleased with them. With this in mind I ordered the SC-PT860 Home Cinema System. It was reasonably easy to set up and I was pleased with the results. It did all that I wanted and more. However, within a month of use it developed a fault which shut down the system. Turn it back on and it turns off again. If you decide to go for this item first of all keep the box etc. Then Google Panasonic Home Theater F61, (F61 is the error code) It's on its way back to Amazon, what a disappointment. I am now left with the Panasonic SH-FX67E-K Wireless Transmitter/Receiver Kit which is of no use to me.

product arrived ahead of schedule, was easy to set up and has good quality sound for the price. I-pod connection works well too.
