My first MP3 player, my wife has a IPod Nano which is Ok. But this Sony Walkman is just so much better IMO.

High Quality sound from the both the supplied, earphone and Bluetooth headphones.

Easy to use, Drag and drop and WMP sync.

Superb build quality.

Nice size and lightweight.

This Sony is tops

Sony NWZA828K 8GB Video Walkman with wireless headphonesWell, I have read the gripes about the new ipod players, namely the new sound chips that fail to impress, the poor volume, the crashes, the lousy earphones, poor battery life and the tie-in with itunes. If you want to watch endless videos on a small screen then I suppose the ipod classic will store all you can ever need BUT if you want to listen to super clear music then go for the new sony. The volume limiter you can just switch off and then the sound can blow you away. The standard earphones are amazing- they even dont fall out AND also included are the blutooth cordless headphones, you can even control the player remotely from these headphones. Battery life is the best you can find. Get your music from anywhere and just drag it into the Sony via Windows Media Player latest version. I found it easy to put my home video dvd on to the player using Movavi prog. to convert to mp4, I got a free trial download from the internet ( if you want to get the full version its about £15 ) But this time you cant use windows media player to drag the now converted mp4 video, I found it easy to drag it into the sony as if it was an external memory device, after opening its contents and revealing its video folder, just drag it into this.

sony walkman NWZA828K 8GB video with wireless headphones

got this as my last sony had a poor battery life despite what it said on the specs. thought i'd give sony another try and this player looks great, sounds great, nice and loud volume, is very light and easy to transport. However, the battery life is even worse than the last one, it says up 30 hours i think, but i can get about 3, and even if you power off it still seems to use the battery so when you turn it on again, say in the morning then the device will be completely flat and require further charging. It takes several hours to fully charge and is not suitable for travelling, as when you get to using it on plane it will have no power, won't bother with sony again and suggest you find alternative. very disappointed.

Excellent!

I purchased this item as a birthday present for myself back last June, so I've had plenty of time to see how it works!

First of all, I chose this specifically for the wireless headphones. In-ear earphones don't fit into my ears very well and I tend to accidentally catch my arms on the wires. So the freedom of no wires was a huge plus. They fit comfortably on my ears, and of course sound great. They can however start to rub if you wear them for extended periods of time, such as on long train journeys. I was pleased to find the headphones have controls on them, so you can put the walkman in your bag and forget about it! You can skip songs, fast forward and rewind, pause, play and adjust the volume with just a quick flick of a finger.

The in-ear earphones which are also supplied actually fitted my ears quite well and had some of the best sound I've ever heard, but unfortunately the wiring became faulty in December. So be gentle with those.

I don't really use the picture, video or playlist functions, so I cannot review those.

One great thing about the walkman is how easy it is to connect to the computer. I haven't even installed any software for it! Just plug it in, then drag and drop. Simple.

The walkman itself feels solid yet light, and looks very smart. I have brought a third party case (i-nique) for it which is keeping it from any knocks, bumps and scratches.

And other than the wired earphones as I've already pointed out, everything works perfectly, even after 7-8 months. I did once have a problem when the headphones and walkman would not connect, but that was easily solved by just finding the headphones manual online to get the pairing code, then pairing them up again. Hasn't troubled me since.

And an interesting note which the walkman manual doesn't mention - a quick tap of the power button while the headphones are on, and they tell you how much battery is left. Three red flashes means full, two is average and one flash means low. Pretty useful, since the headphones don't have as long of a battery life as the walkman itself, and does not have a display.

I only have a couple of niggles - for instance the walkman does not come with a plug. The wireless headphones do though. However usb plugs are readily available and I've nicked mine from the rest of my family, who got one due to their iPods having the same issue. Except of course my sony sounds better, and doesn't wipe itself if I plug it into someone else's computer o.-

The other issue is that you cannot plug the wired and wireless headphones in at the same time - it prioritises the wired set if I remember correctly. I haven't got a spare wireless set to see if you can have two of those working with it. So to show someone a track, you have to give them the headset so you cannot continue to listen yourself. It can be funny watching their faces become confused as they try to figure out how to put them on though! And of course you aren't attached to them by a wire :D

I'd give it four and a half if I could, as it is an excellent piece of kit with the odd minor niggle. I'd definitely recommend it if you don't mind trawling sites such as 7digital or Play for MP3s, and want excellent quality sound. You can't go wrong with this!

Love it, but....

I love my this little MP3 player but I feel it does have some flaws that potential buyers should be aware of.

Starting on a positive note it does what it says on the tin. It's lightweight, slim, stylish looking and the sound quality is fantastic. There are two annoyances which I feel let the device down. Firstly there is no way to create a playlist on the player itself. This means if you want to string together your favourite upbeat tunes to get your psyched up for the gym, you can't do this on-the-fly on the player itself. You'll need to use Microsoft Media Player to do this while it's connected to your PC. Obviously once you've created a playlist using Microsoft Media Player, you can't add or remove tunes from it using the player.

Secondly, if you use the Bluetooth headset, be advised that in crowded areas (Victoria station concourse for example) the Bluetooth signals seem to get interference from nearby mobile phones etc. The result is that you lose your connection to the player and music playback is interrupted for 2-3 secs at a time which is very annoying.

Other than these two problems I would recommend this device to anyone. I just hope someone at Sony is reading this and creates a software update to fix these issues!!
