Sony NWZA828K 8GB Video Walkman with wireless headphones

A neat little MP3 player. Does what it says on the box. The headphones are light, give good quality sound and work equally well with my Sony-Ericson phone. Why Sony don't push these more I have no idea. Put an 8Gb card in the phone and you are away - Oh, and they have a microphone as well.

Being wireless you have to put up with occasional gaps of half a second if you are operating any electrical equipment. Range is good - practically 5-8 metres. After the initial pairing there is a slightly clunky linking procedure to the base unit. My phone actually does it better.

Thoroughly recommended.

Amazing sound quality; easy to use; missing some features

(5 out of 5) by Jürgen Konetschnig on Apr 27, 2009 (Portrush, Northern Ireland)
I bought the NWZ-A828 a few weeks ago. The sound quality with the enclosed headphones is amazing. The bluetooth functionality is very handy when riding a bike or running etc. The sound with the enclosed bluetooth headset is OK but not as good as with the cable headphones (but I did not expect them to be better). The menu is kept very simple and easy to use. The quality of the buttons and the body is OK. In my opinion the player overall looks very elegant. The display quality is up to the recent standard.
I had no problem connecting my player with my laptop. I am running Ubuntu 9.04. The player is mounted as external drive and you just have to drag and drop your data to the different folders (music to MUSIC, videos to VIDEO). Very easy. I had also no problem connecting the player to WINDOWS using a virtual machine (VirtualBox). I converted my videos to the IPOD 320x240 video format and it worked fine for me.
I recharged it the first time after about 2 1/2 weeks after using it nearly every day for at least half an hour (VIDEO and AUDIO). But the play time should go up even more after the first 2 or 3 loads.
The player has problems with reading ID3 v 2.4 tags and there is no AC adapter included in the package. The player does also not support AAC with DRM so if someone looks for a player that supports e.g. audiobooks from Audible should not buy this player.
I am overall very satisfied with the player. It does not do a lot. This players core competence simply is playing music (and video) with excellent quality of sound.

Ipod alternative

(4 out of 5) by James White on Mar 17, 2009 (UK)
I'm very pleased with this product, the sound produced is fantastic and the menu system uses characteristics found of many of the Sony mobile phones. The Bluetooth headphones are brilliant, they can be sync'd with the player within seconds and they have never failed. The only gripe I have with this product is that the joystick used to navigate through menus/songs isn't great, unless you have small fingers. Overall a great product which certainly competes with the Ipod.

Sony Video Walkman and Wireless Headphones

Great product.
8GB is all i'll ever need and it's plenty. Easy to use menu and the software provided is excellent, especially the ATRAC to MP3 converter supplied.
The battery lasts seemingly forever- ran it for over 8 hours, and the battery level in the corner of the screen didn't even go down at all- although that was on standard headphones, not the wireless ones, which have a battery life of around 10 hours.
The wireless headphones are good, but are not very ergonomic and press in on your ears. I don't think that's a valid reason not to buy one though. The bluetooth headphones are really easy to set up and bluetooth can be turned off really easily at the press of a small button on the side.
The screen is nice and big and crystal clear, great for watching videos.

An excellent purchase for the price that it was, and i'm not bothered that it's not the latest model available, since you can save a few pennies in the process. I also think it's better than an Ipod too because not many other people have one, and so you'll have something a little different.
