Disapointed with this product

(3 out of 5) by Capt Akbar Ali on Jul 2, 2009 (Shetland)
I bought this camera after having a 3MP camera for a long time but was a little dsiapointed as pictures are not as great as I was expecting from sony with 8MP.
In my opinion, the biggest disadvantage is that you can't zoom when recording video. (or may be there is some problem with my camera)

Compact and simple to use

(5 out of 5) by Laura Smith on Apr 27, 2009 (Manchester, England)
I wanted a small point and shoot for the times when I can't be bothered, or cannot take, my Nikon D40X. I did a bit of research but was angling towards a CyberShot after seeing the quality of images taken on a friend's mobile phone which uses CyberShot. This was a great price and looked very stylish. I wasn't sure what sort of quality I would get from a camera that cost less than £100, but I was very pleased with this camera. Takes good low light shots when there is little or no movement.. pot luck when there is movement, i find. For basic snapshots and daytime shots, this camera is brilliant. Flash is decent, you can take a picture in total darkness and still see what it is you are photographing! Video function is great. i took footage at a gig, which usually results in distorted sound and bad quality image - but the sound was great and the image was good, considering the zoom I was using!
Simple to use and intuitive, with lots of different presets. I particularly enjoyed playing with smile detection :)

I hate my cybershot

(1 out of 5) by G. Law on Apr 20, 2009 (Bangor, NI)
I purchased a replacement cybershot back in December (in time for Xmas pictures of children etc). My previous had broken down - shutter was jammed and expense of repair made no sense. The same has happened to my replacement, within 3 months of purchase - stay clear!!!

Great bit of kit!

I finally got round to buying my own camera rather than the usual hand me downs and after a bit of research, decided on this one and I am glad I did. I am not techy and so won't pretend to that I use all the features, however those I do use are great.

As a simply camera the operation is as straight forward as it is proficient - my 4 year old daughter has taken some great shots on it. The face and smile detection features are very useful in the right circumstances, as is the ability to take several photos while pressing and holding the button. The video function is good if not great, but has provided a couple of 'keeper' clips and the menu and screen itslef are functional and straight forward.

I'm sure there is more to this camera than we use, but our library has grown exponentially since we purchased this and I would recommend it to anyone.

Good simple camera but not as good as i expected

(3 out of 5) by E. Beavan on Mar 10, 2009
This camera's quite alright as a simple straight forward camera but was a bit of a let down only because I expected it to be an improvement and upgrade on my existing cybershot w5 which i brought about 4 years ago and has just died. They've sorted out some of the problems, such as the rotating button on the top which has a habit of having a mind of its own, and they've kept some good features like the big screen. There's some obvious improvements such as more MPs and slightly better zoom but there's seems to be a lot fewer options and features.

It's small and light and good for taking quick and simple pictures using settings with names like 'easy', but I still prefer my old camera.

Oh, also a bit annoyed it doesn't take the same memory cards as my old one, (pretty much the reason i chose this camera so i didn't have to buy a whole new collection). Although, to be fair quite a few of these points are probably down to me not reading the tech spec properly...
