iPod dock with a bit of a kick

(4 out of 5) by D. MCGUFFOG on Feb 1, 2009 (UK)
Admittedly when I bought this item it cost £40 less than it currently does, so was considerably more of a bargain than it is now, but nonetheless this is still a decent piece of kit, and has considerably more 'oomph' to its iPod speaker capabilities than much of the competition, thanks mainly to its in-built sub woofer.
Of course there's always a trade-off with any design, and here it's portability, which is not a feature this item really incorporates, being a fairly hefty lump of a dock.
The build quality is pretty solid, the blue back-lighting is a nice touch (the centre ring glows blue should you so wish), and most importantly the sound-quality is excellent.
The specifications claim that this unit is iPod Touch compatible, and whereas this is true from a functionality point of view, the selection of iPod adapters needed to use the dock doesn't include one that fits the iPod Touch, though you can make do with one for the iPod Video that just about fits.
This product is also especially useful thanks to its auxiliary input, which allows you to have another item plugged in to the speakers as well as your iPod. I use it for my PS3 and it gives games and movies a decent kick of quality sound.
The remote control looks like crap and feels cheap, but works just fine so no real complaints there.
All this unit really lacks is a 3.5mm photo jack input for non iPod mp3 players that don't always work through the USB input (though tracks on a USB key stick play really well) and maybe a headphone socket wouldn't have hurt either, but basically this is a really good speaker system/iPod dock which was a bargain a month ago, but is probably still worth the money now if you want your iPod to be able to push out some loud music.

Best docking station out there

(5 out of 5) by Kylie Greaves on Sep 10, 2009 (Lincoln, United Kingdom)
Firstly, purchasing this product from DCL was very beneficial as the product was as described if not better, great value for money, appearence, and sound quality and finally arrived in less then 24hrs from purchase. Thank you!

Appearence of the docking station is very high quality, nothing on it feels cheap in any way, and the shape is very modern. This product looks and feels like one costing many times more it's price tag. The top surface is a smoothe and shiney covering which is really easy and quick to wipe clean, and the buttons are located here. They are clearly marked and really easy to use. The front of the unit is essentially a subwoofer! It has a metal grate on the front covering the speakers which will protect them well and doesnt feel or look as cheap as plastic ones would. The centre has a great blue glowing light which looks fantastic, and the ipod docking area at the bottom of the front of the unit ejects like that of a CD player, and has a digital display on the front of it. The Product has a range of different trays that fit your ipod depending on which one you have, and these are easily identifiable with numbers, and slot in seamlessly to the docking tray. Due to the shape of the unit, you will need a fair amount of space, and it isnt as small as you'd imagine either, being easliy a more then a foot long, and half a foot wide. The instructions do not recommend anything be placed on top of the unit too, not that it would stay there with the curving surface!

Sound Quality! The most important factor next to price! I was VERY suprised with the quality of sound being soooooo high with this unit. It equalled if not surpassed my home cinema system in quality and depth of the bass, and you can easliy adjust the treble and bass on the unit and with the remote control to your liking. The sound is quality of units costing three times as much as this product, so if you are at the max of your budget with this product then you will be well rewarded, if this is the lower end of your budget, then you should seriously consider what more you could get with your money as this is a brilliant sound and volume goes high without distortion, easily filling a hall, so save your money for a nice piece of furniture on which to display your bargain!

To summise, this is cheap cheap cheap, with fantastic sound, a stunning looking unit oozing quality and you will be pround to have this piece of machinery make your walls vibrate with bass! LOOK NO FURTHER!!! BUY IT!!! YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!

Sounds great - when it works

(2 out of 5) by PD on Oct 26, 2009
Was extremely impressed when I received my first one, for the first 10 minutes. Perfect sound and qua;ity and then it just stopped working. Amazon quickly replaced it. The second one distorts the sound from one speaker, especially at low volume. This is now going back but Amazon will only refund and not replace as they say it is out of stock. Dissappointing

Fantasic little machine!

Actually it is not that little nor is it that light, but it is blooming wonderful. Nicely designed plus excellent sound quality. Lookes & feels alot more expensive than it is. Only four stars, because it does not do every thing that it claimes with every ipod model, never the less excellent value for money & alot more than one expects.
