Hi,
Bought this recorder new, a week or so ago from Amazon. Can watch one program on freeview, while recording another on the hard drive, same if you record with the dvd.Superb quality of picture and sound on both.Your t.v. needs freeview to do this though.First time I have used Amazon AAAAA+ business.

Toshiba rd88t

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Donald Ledgerwood on Feb 13, 2009 (Bonhill Scotland)
Excellent machine. It is easy to use, although manual is quite large and as machine has numerous features finding relative piece is timeconsuming. This is far outweighed by giving the results it does. The cost for such a machine is truely remarkable. I have not been able to use the digital tuner part as yet, due to living in an area that has not moved onto this type of broadcast. Only slight problem I have dad is in using -DVDRW discs recorder on my PC with it. They don't play. If they have been formatted and recorded on the Toshiba they are fine. +DVDRW discs are fine. This may be me not setting up the machine properly, as like I said manual is large and techinical.

Major Disapointment

(1 out of 5) by Stephen A. Partridge on Feb 8, 2009
What a disapointment I purchased this because the blurb said watch one record another. No matter how I try I can't get it to do so. You are in the middle of a programe and have the timer set to record another prog only to have the machine turn away from the station you are watching onto the one you want to record. What is the point of a machine that will not reord at the same time as letting you watch someting else. What a waste of £170.

Good quality product,no complaints so far....

I bought this unit because it looked ok,the reviews were good and I was fed up with a freeview box,dvd player etc cluttering up my living room.I have only had the unit a week and think it's very good value for money, good picture quality which works with my Toshiba tv.
My last dvd recorder was a Phillips which was dreadful.
