[[ASIN:B0012EPNPU Olympus Mju 1030SW Digital Camera - Platinum Silver (10.1MP, 3.6x Digital Zoom) 2.7" LC
Recently, November 2008 we went to the Maldives, the camera was brilliant for 6 days, both on land and whilst snorkelling, the picture quality was excellent, especially under water, then I took about 20 on land photos - OK. took the camera with me snorkelling and after about 20 minutes and another 20 underwater photos, got the message "Card-cover open" followed by "Before operating the camera in water, please check battery and USB covers for foreign objects"
Checked the camera everything in order, however I could not use the camera again.
When I got home I telephoned Olympus Customer Services, they reported that the contacts needed attention. They then replaced the camera under warranty, within 2 weeks - no complaints with the Customer Services Department. I have not used the replacement camera yet, although I am going to register for their free 2 years warranty before I take it any where wet. - !!!

Hi everyone,
I bought this camera after reading numerous reviews and looking on the web for other people's opinions, and i wasn't disappointed.
Some people complain about the picture quality - it is fine for me - i use it on the full 10 Mp setting with fine compression.....and the photos look fabulous. Even when fully zoomed in it looks great.
Some people complain that the buttons are too small, i got used to it straight away even with my medium to big sized hands. Some people mention the fact that your finger gets in the way of the lens, as it is close to the top right, but i managed to avoid that after 2 or 3 photos. The only problem is if you give it to someone else to take a photo. Just tell them to hold it with one hand, and if it drops - who cares!!!
It does feel very solid and great underwater. No leaks whatsoever. Just make sure everything is snapped closed before doing it and you'll be fine.
It is a camera that will last a long time, save youself from buying 2 or 3 over 5 years, this one will do the lot for a long time. It is full of features, and even with the lack of manual controls does each shot perfectly, whether underwater, in the mountains or just out in the pub or something. All the photos were perfect.
One last must have for me, was the fact that when you look through the photos you have taken on the screen, they need to move quick. This does it with ease with no delay like many others out there.
If you are looking for a tough camera that will last and take great shots then treat yourself to this little beauty.

Bought this for its ruggedised capabilities, and I'm pleased to say it does the job with aplomb.
Picture quality, ease of use, ruggedness and looks all top notch. It's quite pricey but the comfort factor of not caring whether it rains or not or if you drop it is worth it! I'm looking forward to taking this camera on some long treks.
The only real grumble I have is that you can't control the aperture or shutter speed at all. I tried using the panorama mode (and bought the requisite Olympus XD card) but the camera was taking shots at 1/1000 at f7.1 - nowhere near the depth of field necessary for a panorama. Come on Olypmus, if there's enough light to shoot at 1/1000 then shrink the aperture! The panorama system is neat, using a system of images on the screen to enable you to get the proper degree of overlap in the right place, but if at the end of the day the image is out of focus there's no point...
You're better off shooting in landscape mode and then using Photostitch or similar. Am still playing and hopefully results will improve.
Camera still gets 5 stars though, it's a really cool piece of kit especially for anyone into outdoor sports, diving etc.

Pondering vaious cameras including Sony, Panasonic - all below the price of the 1030. But I've no regrets......This camera is amazing...
Under water its incredible : pictures & videos come out very clear.
Normal shots are good; the 'guide' option is great for a notice like me because it shows, with pictures, the type of shot/effect you want and it simply does it..
Camera is very fast to take a shot, though flash re-charge isn't so fast (perhaps normal?); I've a gripe that I've taken loads of pictures and you cannot multiple-delete pics on the camera, so you have to either delete>YES on each pic or choose 'delete pics on camera after upload'; neither are satisfactory.
But, cannot wait till I hit the beach for not only rest, but to play with my new gadget in the sea and beach - where I'll be taking videos and pictures very happily!
Recommended.

I just recieved mine the other day and so far it feels like great little bit of kit. But i think thier is one thing that people need to bear in mind that i didnt realise till after i recieved the camera.
The hi Quality 30 fps movie mode (which is one of the feature i plan to use alot) Is limited to 10 sec rec time UNLESS you update the firmware to ver 1.1 AND you have to use a Type M+ XD card, if like me, you didnt realise this and bought a standerd Type M XD card (or indeed any of the Micro SD cards) your out of luck. everything else works fine but no Hi Quality movie fun for you. Im now haveing to go through the hassle of returning the card i bought so i can replace it with a Type M+.
Its a bit of a poor show on Olympuses part, all it would have taken was a little disclaimer in the advertising material. Come on guys is that too much to ask?
Other than that i still think this a great little camera.
