Great little performer.

Canon FS100 Digital Camcorder (45 x Advanced Zoom With 2.7" Widescreen Colour LCD)I purchased the FS100 two months ago to replace an earlier Canon owned for seven trouble free years. Though a little dubious about the `New' technology without tapes I took the plunge.
The results from this pocket size camera have been delight.Vidio footage is crisp and clear. Colours are natural very good Easy mode and the manual selection on the whole are very useful. The night selection is the most disappointing.
Battery life is very good, once you have stopped frequently swapping modes and reviewing your work, charging is relatively quick with the supplied charger.
The 45x zoom is very good though I would recommend support at the upper end.
A handy little remote control is also a very helpful item.
Still pictures are acceptable even at its relatively low pixel rating. I found the ability to switch from video to still at any time a great feature.
So far so good it saves me carrying two cameras and get good results from this pocket
sized gem.
At the price I would highly recommend.

Pretty good!

(4 out of 5) by R. Rands on Jul 2, 2008 (London, UK)
I got this camera a few weeks back, and I have to say that I've been delighted with the results. As has been mentioned before, the picture quality drops in very low light situations, and if you want to film on the highest zooms then you'll need steadier hands than mine(or a tripod)! But, all in all it's worked very well for me indoors and out.

One of the appeals of flash memory for me is the ease of transferring video on to a laptop. I can't comment on how it performs with a card reader, but the device itself imports the data quickly and with the minimum of fuss, although you have to keep the camera plugged in to the mains whilst you do it. I'd read that some people had had issues importing to iMovie on a Mac - no problems here for me.

I'm not too sure why Canon have bothered with the FS10 & 11 models as the price of flash storage makes them overly expensive, but that's their decision!

All in all, if you're looking for a very compact, lightweight, easy to use and cheap flash memory camcorder, you could do a lot worse than this little number.

Canon FS100 An Excellent Camcorder

(4 out of 5) by P. Hazell on Aug 13, 2008 (United Kingdom)
I purchased the Canon camcorder some 4 weeks ago and am amazed at the quality both of the camera itself and the results it produces. It is very simple to use, gives superb picture and sound quality and is generally a "nice" piece of equipment to own. I would thoroughly recommend it to a beginner or an experienced camcorder user.

Canon FS100

(5 out of 5) by R. T. Johnson on Jun 12, 2008 (Sheffield England)
Recieved my FS100 yesterday, having fully charging the battery i have just started to use this camcorder and at just £227.00 all i can say is that this camcorder is fantastic.
The still photo's look good on the TV and also on my PC.
And better still is the record quallity in camcorder mode.
Up to press there is only one little niggle that i can find is that the battery door easily comes open at the slightest touch.
Over all i am pleased with this camcorder, and the record quality is on par with my Sony mini dvd like wise the still photo's
I have not printed any photo's yet,so i can't comment on that, but at this price, and size,in my opinion this is a good little kit
And the Canon FS100 is so easy to use i would recomend this camcorder

Nice little camcorder

I bought this to replace a Sony HC22 (mini DV format) whose LCD screen had failed. There was £30 cashback from Canon, it was a great price from Amazon, the new technology meant I would not need tapes, it fitted into the hand perfectly and it had stop/start and zoom controls on the LCD panel surround which I think are more easily controlled. The high end of the 45x zoom is only useful when using a tripod. Low light performance is grainy. My wife is the one who uses it, mainly in the 'easy' mode where focus, exposure etc are automatic. To come anywhere near mini DV performance you should select highest quality which uses more memory. I chose a Transcend 16gb sdhc card and an Integral card reader thinking I could just copy the files to my PC and use my familiar Videostudio editing prog. Unfortunately the files are not compatible with older editing progs as they use MOV file extensions. I am having to use the bundled Pixela software. Download from FS100 is via USB2 and not firewire. The instructions on how to use the software can be found on the CD but do not automatically download to the PC. Be sure to read all the paperwork. I like the FS100 but the change over was not all plain sailing
