Very good but I prefer the Z1085IS
Kodak have a nice camera here, but I feel that the Kodak Z1085IS is an even better camera and has optical image stabilisation also
There are two other Z cams with identical body designs and similar features, namely the Z1085 (10mp) and the Z1485(14mp available from Argos as a substitute for the z1285) forget the Z1485 as it has a different colour rendition to this cam (I note that Kodak do not boast of the "colour science chip" on the z1485....and it shows...its not as good), 10MP is the limit IMO at the moment, once you go higher on a small sensor, the image quality paradoxically goes downhill....this may change in the near future, but for now, this 10MP sensor is the king of the Kodak...dont misunderstand me, this camera is good, and for most people its just as good as a far more expensive brand like a Canon G9....the Canon has more features, but for the most part...this cam takes equally good pictures and is less than half the price...its good, but all I am saying is I would recommend the Z1085 as its even better, and once you go up to 14MP as in the Kodak Z1485 or the Canon G10....its hard to think of any advantages.
Bear in mind that this 12MP sensor is almost certainly the same as used by several other manufacturers and the schneider lens is just great...Kodak know how to process an image....so this camera cant really help but be anything other than good, compare the price of this camera to something like the Canon G9 for example....yes I know that with the Canon you get great build, a hotshoe etc etc, but this camera will take photos that are just as good ...and at the rate that cameras are upgraded, the Kodak is the smart buy for me IMO
Batteries...supplied with 1 non-rechargeable battery pack (lasts for ages)...when that goes flat you can conveniently use 2XAA rechargeables (get good ones)or the best option is the CRV3 rechargeable battery pack and charger...if you get two CRV3s and a charger you will never have a problem, lasts for ages , if you get a Kodak printer dock, or the Kodak HD dock, you can use a Klic 8000 battery pack which is automatically recharged when docked...very convenient
Nice purposeful design, easy menus, manual control.... I like P mode as I often tweak the EV (exposure conntrol)...but full auto works well most of the time...oh and the HD video is amazing
For the price....I give it 4 stars but its not quite as good as the similar priced Z1085IS
Just a note about software, the supplied Kodak easyshare software is great for beginners, it has loads of features and will arrange all your photos in albums and date order etc etc, its great....its the best bundled software of any manufacturer, and even allows you to make greetings cards and loads of other stuff....so if that is something you are looking for, thats a Kodak bonus
