Good Quality Product

(4 out of 5) by R. Jenkins on Nov 14, 2008 (London, UK)
The Garmin Nüvi 300 (which, by the way doesn't have bluetooth) does what it says. Reliable, easy to use, small and seems well built. Connects to a Mac, which in my world of 'ah...except it won't work on a Mac' deserves a mention in it's own right.

One word of caution, this particular product is 'newly overhauled'. I have this very product and before it was newly overhauled I can only guess it was it was someone else's. Not a problem, as it looks brand new, you'd never know, unless you want to register it with Garmin and the previous owner already had.

Not to worry though, after two emails and one scanned copy of my proof of purchase, they deleted the old registration and I now have mine registered with a free software update. Quick, painless and simple. All in all complete satisfaction.

By the way, just to be clear, you can't connect it to your phone and you do need an extra FM receiver for live traffic reporting. This is basic A-B driving at a reasonable cost.

Garmin Nuvi

(5 out of 5) by Richard J. Smith on Nov 8, 2008 (East Sussex)
I purchased this, and as soon as i got it home i followed the instructions on the screen to set it up.

Dead easy.

it is very accurate, to within 20 feet, (that's good enough for me). however you must set it up correctly or you will get taken down country roads. (as in Don't set it to avoid highways).

It shows the safety cameras, as well as most of the mobile camera sites, and warns you if your travelling over the limit in these zones.

it has one fantastic feature that i love, as in it is also a handsfree kit for my mobile phone.

I have a Nokia N73, and after doing some searching on Nokia's website, i downloaded the Contacts download facility, now as soon as i switch my nuvi on, it pairs with my phone, and it downloads all of my contact information to the nuvi.

this allows me to use the touch screen to make calls through the Nuvi.

all in all a very good buy. well worth the money.

Excellent value!

(5 out of 5) by Ms. E. L. Lloyd on Dec 27, 2008 (Dudley, England)
I bought this as a gift for christmas, and it is truly amazing! i had read reviews of other sat navs that were more expensive, and supposedly with better technology, and they had bad reviews. The signal of this sat nav is really good, and is so easy to use. And for less than £100, it is amazing value!

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A TORCH ONBOARD!

I only used this three times. Last week when I tried to use it, The screen backlight refused to come on. The battery was fully charged, hit reset, searched google and discovered others had same complaint. I had a tom tom one before, and that used to switch off half way along a journey, so I thought getting the Garmin was a good idea. I am going to stick to my cheapskate nokia gps thing on my phone. I will not worry about cops going to prosecute me, they are never to be seen, as they are all doing paperwork

Great value for money

If you want a no-nonsense, totally adequate sat-nav that's simple to set up, does the job well and recalculates very rapidly if you deviate from the original route, then this is for you. It has user selectable levels of map detail, vehicle types (including on foot) and route types eg shortest, fastest etc. I find it is perfectly stable when mounted on the easy to use Nav-Mat dash mount which of course does not leave tell-tale security-risk suction rings on the widscreen or dash.

I don't use the photo and music funtions but they work OK. The only minor criticism is that when approaching a turning it can lag by a few metres behind the car's real position, but since these things are supposed to be used with eyes open and brain engaged it's not a problem.
